449 Palestinians, Including 66 Children, Killed by Israeli Occupation Force in the First Half of 2008

Israeli occupation forces raid Jenin and Qabatiya

Israeli occupation forces raided the northern West Bank city of Jenin and the nearby town of Qabatiya on Sunday firing in the air and deploying sonic bombs. No casualties or arrests have been reported.

Palestinian security sources stated that Israeli occupation forces patrols stormed Jenin at 1:00am and roamed the streets. They withdrew one and a half hours later.

Just after storming Jenin, Israeli occupation forces invaded the southern neighborhood of Qabatiya and withdrew later.

449 Palestinians were killed including 66 children in the first half of 2008, according to a report by the Palestinian ministry of health.

Dr. Mu'awiyah Hassanain, a senior ministry official said that this number brought the total number of Palestinians killed since September 28, 2000 up to 5440.   Meanwhile, Dr. Hassanain reported that 4 thousand Palestinians were wounded raising the number of wounded Palestinians since the outbreak of the second Intifada up to sixty thousand, 8550 of which became disabled.   

The second Intifada started in September 2000 after the former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon made a provocative visit to Al-Aqsa Mosque accompanied by more than 2000 police officers, soldiers and security officers.
