Israeli Kidnapping of MP Mona Mansour Escalation in West Bank, a Threat to Calm, Says Ahmed Bahar Bahar: Kidnap of MPs, escalation in WB threaten calm [ 21/07/2008 - 03:48 PM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the acting Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) speaker, told a press conference on Monday that the "Zionist serious and qualitative escalation" in the West Bank was threatening the calm agreement in Gaza Strip. He demanded the immediate and unconditional release of MP Mona Mansour, who was abducted before dawn Monday in Nablus from her house and in front of her panicking children. He also denounced the "horrible silence" on the part of Arab and Islamic leaders towards the continued Israeli detention of MPs and ministers atop of whom PLC speaker Dr. Aziz Al-Duwaik, whose health condition gravely worsened due to maltreatment in occupation jails. Bahar called for urgent meetings for the Arab League and the OIC to discuss the issue of those kidnapped MPs and ministers in addition to the escalation in kidnapping female lawmakers. He stressed that silence over such crimes was no longer acceptable. He also asked speakers of Arab parliaments to call for emergency sessions to discuss the issue and to pressure their governments into organizing a large-scale diplomatic campaign on the international level to demand the release of Palestinian representatives of the people. The acting speaker held PA chief Mahmoud Abbas responsible morally and politically towards this issue, and expressed utter dismay at the continued meetings of Abbas with Israeli leaders at a time more than 11,000 Palestinian prisoners were languishing in occupation dungeons.
