Father of eight children, Kamel Abu Rezq, dies due to Israeli siege on Gaza

[ 21/07/2008 - 08:35 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

Palestinian citizen Kamel Abu Rezq, 44 and a father of eight children, died on Sunday after the Israeli occupation government denied him permit to leave abroad for proper medical treatment, Palestinian sources announced Sunday.

The popular committee against the siege confirmed that Abu Rezq was suffering from cancer and that he had appealed several times to the IOA to allow him travel abroad for medical treatment but the IOA rejected his appeals.

The death of Abu Rezq increases number of sick Palestinian citizens who died due to the unjust Israeli blockade on Gaza Strip to 212, a according to a report issued by the committee and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC.

For its part, An Israeli human rights institution accused the Israeli intelligence department (Shabak) of banning 14 Palestinian citizens in "very critical condition", including two blind brothers among others from leaving the Gaza Strip to receive appropriate medical treatment abroad on unconvincing "security pretexts".

In a fresh report it issued in this regard, Physicians for Human Rights confirmed a sharp decrease in the number of sick Palestinian citizens granted permits by the IOA to seek medical treatment outside the besieged Gaza Strip, explaining that only 15-20 Palestinians were allowed to leave every month.

The report noted a big increase in the number of sick Palestinian citizens applied for help of the society after the IOA denied them permits to leave, confirming it had sent tens of letters to concerned Israeli departments to check the reasons for banning those citizens from leaving the Strip but to no avail.

The report also asserted that there were tens of sick Palestinian citizens stranded in Jordan without shelter or work after Israel refused to let them return back to their homes in the Gaza Strip.
