Israeli internal intelligence, Shabak, blocks departure of 14 critically ill Palestinians from Gaza [ 20/07/2008 - 10:51 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Israel's general security service the Shabak has blocked the travel of 14 critically ill Palestinians including two blind brothers from leaving the Gaza Strip for treatment abroad at security pretexts. The Israeli physicians for human rights said in a report that the number of Palestinians allowed to leave the Strip for treatment has drastically dropped to 15 or 20 patients daily. Quds press on Sunday quoted the society as saying that over the past two months about 120 patients pleaded with the society after the Israeli occupation authority refused to grant them travel permits. The society noted that the two blind brothers are children 13 and 14 years old, and noted that the Israeli replies to its queries on those requests were not convincing. For its part, the Islamic Jihad Movement said that the calm between Palestinian resistance factions and Israel was collapsing due to the Israeli insistence on retaining only partial opening of crossings. Khaled Al-Batsh, one of the Movement's leaders, said that the calm did not so far realize its goals topped by opening crossings, ending siege and halting aggression. The factions have given a chance of one month for the calm but it could any moment collapse due to the continues Israeli violations, Batsh said, adding, however, that his Movement would not be the one to break the calm because the "enemy wants to end the calm then hold us responsible for it".
