Israeli Aggression Against the Palestinian People, July 17, 2008 The Israeli army invades Bait Omar village in northern Hebron City Thursday July 17, 2008 11:59 by Rula Shahwan - IMEMC News The Israeli army invaded on Thursday morning Bait Omar village north of the West Bank city of Hebron and imposed a curfew. Official sources reported that a number of military Israeli vehicles invaded the village at dawn and shot random gun fire and sound bombs, adding that Israeli troops walked the streets of the village before imposing a curfew on it. Official sources added that a cocktail bomb was dropped at one of the Israeli vehicles, setting it on fire at the village's main street. Thirteen detainees wounded in Majeddo prison Friday July 18, 2008 04:26 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News In a letter that was leaked on Wednesday from the Majeddo Israeli
prison, the detainees stated that Israeli soldiers broke into the prison
and attacked them with batons and clubs. Thirteen detainees were wounded
and suffered concussions and bruises. They also stated that there were also attacked several days ago after the soldiers broke into section 9 of the detention facility and used water hoses, clubs and batons against the detainees after claiming that they effused to stand in front of the prison warden to be counted and searched. The administration placed five detainees in solitary confinement and imposed high fines on five other detainees after claiming that they violated the instructions of the prison administration. In a related issue, Azmi Shiyoukhy, secretary-general of the Popular Committees reported that there are 78 female detainees and approximately 10000 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel. The detainees are facing very bad living conditions, lack the needed bathing water, deprived from medical attention and facing ongoing attacks by the soldiers and some Israeli prisoners who are imprisoned for criminal offensives. The detainees are not provided with sufficient amounts of food, and in many cases their food was found to be unfit for human consumption. Detained PLC head facing a deteriorating health condition Friday July 18, 2008 03:35 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News The presidency of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health condition of the Legislative Council head, Dr. Aziz Dweik, who is imprisoned by Israel along with dozens of legislators and officials. In a press release, the PLC stated that Dr. Dweik underwent surgery at the Al Ramla Prison Hospital on Thursday, and is still in a bad health condition. His health started deteriorating three months ago. He was kept at the prison hospital which lacks the basic tools and equipment since more than two months as the Israeli Authorities are refusing to allow him to be hospitalized at a specialized hospital. The PLC stated that these acts violate the international law and the Fourth Geneva Conventions. Also, the PLC called on Amro Mousa, secretary-general of the Arab League, and UN secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, to intervene for the release of the elected head of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and all detained officials. The PLC and Hamas movement held Israel responsible for the condition of Dweik. Dr. Dweik was kidnapped by the Israeli forces two years ago, so far, no charges were filed against him and he remains imprisoned along with 43 illegally imprisoned legislators. Youth wounded near Jerusalem Friday July 18, 2008 03:09 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News The Asrana (Our Detainees) Center reported on Thursday evening that an 18-year old youth was wounded in his head in addition to sustaining burns in the head and face after Israeli soldiers hurled a sound bomb at him. The youth, Abdullah Jamal Mubarak, also lost his hearing sense , apparently permanently, as the concussion grenade exploded near his ear also causing burns to his face and hair. Monqith Abu Roomy, head of the Media Office at Asrana Center in Jerusalem district, stated that Mubarak was heading towards an exterior toilet near his home when the soldiers hurled the concussion at him. The wounded youth is a former political detainee as he was earlier kidnapped and sentenced for membership with Fateh movement. Arab MK: “Police treats Arabs as enemies of the state” Thursday July 17, 2008 18:25 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies Talab Al Sane’, an Arab member of Israeli Knesset, head of the United Arab Block, presented to the Knesset the issue of Sabri AL Jirjawi, an Arab resident of Wadi Al Ni’am village in the Negev and was killed by Israeli policemen. Al Sane’ stated that Al Jirjawi was killed by racist policemen motivated by their hatred for Arabs. Addressing the Israeli Internal Security Minister, Avi Dichter, Al Sane’ said that the Or Committee which probed the death of 13 Arabs who were killed by Israeli policemen in October 2000 decided that the policemen treat the Arabs in Israel as enemies. He added that the police force did not seriously discuss the report of the committee and did not implement its recommendations. He said that this issue is serious and causes deep concern. He added that Israeli policemen and security personnel killed a total of 28 Arab youths but all cases were closed without punishing the killers. Al Sane’ also stated that the Mahash investigation department should be immediately dissolved “as the investigators are policemen who are investigating their fellows”, he said, “We do not trust this department”. He called on Dichter to create a neutral investigation unit in order to probe the death of Al Jirjawi, but Dichter told Al Sane’ that the case of the slain resident is now in the hands of Mahash, and suggested to wait until the probe is concluded. Death toll 209 as one more patient died in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli siege Thursday July 17, 2008 15:40 by Rula Shahwan - IMEMC News Medical sources reported that the number of patients who died due to the Israeli siege in the Gaza Strip for over a year reached 209 as one more patient was announced dead on Thursday morning. Human sufferings Medical sources reported that a six year old Aimad Eweni died on Thursday morning of a kidney failure as he was banned from getting out of the Gaza Strip for treatment adding that there are not enough medical supplies in the Strip. The Israeli army demolishes a Palestinian home in Eastern Jerusalem Thursday July 17, 2008 12:50 by Rula Shahwan - IMEMC News A huge Israeli military force stormed and demolished on Thursday at dawn the home of Ahmad Al A'rameen in Al Ezariye village east of Jerusalem City. The Media office "Asrana" reported that the Israeli troops attacked Ahmad and his wife beating her and causing the breakage of her shoulder. Moreover the troops attacked his three sons, Baha 24, Alaa 26 and Raja 22 causing the breakage of his right hand and several bruises over their bodies. The media office "Asrana" also reported that the Israeli army kidnapped two of his sons Ammar 18 and Durkham 17. The troops attacked and beat them before taking them to unknown detention camps. The Media office "Asrana" criticized this illegal attack and called the International Institutions for Human Rights for a quick intervention to put an end to the illegitimate Israeli attacks on Palestinians. Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank and the Gaza
