GAZA, (PIC)--

A group of Palestinian fighters on Thursday escaped unharmed after IOF troops fired three land-to-land missiles at them in Jabalia, northern Gaza, local sources reported.

They told PIC correspondent that the group members were stationed at a crossing near Jabalia when the shelling took place but they managed to escape unharmed.

Meanwhile, the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, on Thursday claimed responsibility for firing seven locally made Qassam missiles at the Israeli settlement of Sderot to the north of the Gaza Strip in two batches.

The armed wing underlined that the attack was in response to the IOF brutal massacre in Zaitun suburb in Gaza city on Tuesday that left 19 Palestinians killed and 50 others wounded.

The IOF command acknowledged that two Israelis were moderately injured in the Qassam shelling and that five others were treated for shock.

The Hebrew radio reported on Thursday that Palestinian resistance fighters in Gaza fired almost 70 missiles and mortar shells at Israeli positions near the Strip on Wednesday.

It added that Israeli premier Ehud Olmert held an emergency meeting last night with his war minister Ehud Barak, chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi and chairman of general security Yuval Diskin to discuss the situation.
