GAZA, (PIC)--

Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahar, the Hamas prominent political leader, has received a barrage of condolence calls on the death of his son Hussam, 22, in the IOF bloody incursion on Tuesday including a phone call from PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.

Abbas reached Zahar over the phone late Wednesday night to extend his condolences over the death of Hussam while confronting the IOF aggression east of Gaza in the first such official contact between the two parties since the Gaza takeover by Hamas.

Fawzi Barhoum the Hamas spokesman, told PIC correspondent that the Palestinian chief sent a delegation headed by Kamal Al-Shurafi to offer condolences to Zahar before his telephone contact.

Barhoum appreciated Abbas's initiative, stressing that Palestinian blood should be an opportunity to unite ranks in face of Zionist aggression.

He called for exploiting all efforts to strengthen the Palestinian political institution in a bid to end the internal crisis and unite all efforts to "defend our people and to confront all challenges and to preserve our rights and constants".

Well informed sources told PIC that the Abbas-Zahar telephone conversation went on for 20 minutes, and added that a number of Fateh prominent figures in the West Bank also phoned Zahar for the same purpose.

Yemeni, Iranian presidents extend condolences to Haniya

[ 16/01/2008 - 04:04 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

Ismail Haniya, the premier of the PA caretaker government, on Wednesday received a phone call from Iranian president Ahmedi Nejad in which he extended his condolences over the murder of 19 Palestinians on Tuesday at the hands of IOF troops.

Nejad, who accorded special condolences to Hamas leader Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahar over the martyrdom of his son Hussam in the carnage, said that the "Zionist massacre" was encouraged by US president George Bush's visit to the region where he gave a green light to occupation to expand aggression and target civilians.

Haniya thanked the Iranian head of state for his call and briefed him on the tragic and painful conditions of the Palestinian people.

Haneyya also phoned the Yemeni president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, and explained to him details of the massacre.

Government sources in Sana'a said that Saleh condemned the Israeli "barbaric offensive", and affirmed that the practical response to the repeated Israeli aggressions is strengthening unity of the Palestinian people and bypassing differences.

The president underlined that he would exert strenuous efforts with the USA, EU and the world community to pressure the Hebrew state to halt its aggressions.

Saleh extended condolences over the murder of Hussam Al-Zahar and other Palestinians in the IOF raid.
