5 unknown bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad , Jan 16, (VOI) – 

Five unidentified bodies were found in the Iraqi capital Baghdad by police patrols on Wednesday, police said.

"Police patrols found five unidentified bodies in different parts of Baghdad," an Iraqi interior ministry source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"Two of the bodies were found in Baghdad's al-Rasafa section neighborhood of Jisr Diala, while the third was discovered in al-Shaab," the source noted.
"The fourth body was found in western Baghdad’s al-Bayaa neighborhood, while the five was found in al-Dora," he added "All the bodies showed signs of having been shot, mostly in the head," the source said.

IED leaves 5 casualties in Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Jan 16, (VOI) – 

An explosive charge went off in Kirkuk targeting a police patrol on Wednesday, leaving five persons, including two policemen wounded, the city police said. "An improvised explosive device (IED) went off on Wednesday near a police patrol in al-Wassiti neighborhood, south Kirkuk, leaving two patrol policemen and three civilians near scene wounded," a police source of the Kirkuk security operation room told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). "The blast severely damaged the patrol vehicles and another civilian vehicle in the area," he added. Kirkuk, a city of mixed Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish population, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Salah al-Din district chief wounded in suicide bombing

Salah al-Din, Jan 16, (VOI) – 

The chief of Sulaiman Bik district was wounded in a car bomb suicide attack that targeted his motorcade, a senior security source said on Wednesday.

"A suicide bomber driving a car rigged with explosives blew himself up near the motorcade of Sulaiman Bik district chief, Taleb Muhammad Mustafa, while he was en-route back home," a source from Salah al-Din police operations room, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

"The explosion shattered the vehicle's windows, wounding the district chief and three of his companions," the source noted.

One of the patrol cars accompanying the official was slightly damaged in the blast.

Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Mosul car bomb wounds 5 civilians

Ninewa, Jan 16, (VOI) – 

Five civilians were wounded in a suicide attack that targeted a U.S. patrol in eastern Mosul, the head of Ninewa police operations room said on Wednesday.

"A suicide bomber driving a car rigged with explosives blew himself up near a U.S. patrol in Mosul's eastern neighborhood of al-Maliyya, wounding five civilians who were near the scene of the blast," Brigadier Abdul Kareem al-Juburi told Aswat al-Iraq, Voices of Iraq, (VOI). Al-Juburi did not indicate whether the explosion caused damage to the U.S. patrol.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

U.S. soldier dies in Anbar - Pentagon

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Wednesday the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom in Anbar province.
"Lance Cpl. Curtis A. Christensen Jr., 29, of Collingswood, N.J., died on Jan 11 from a non-hostile incident in Anbar province, Iraq," the Pentagon said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

Central Baghdad explosion casualties up to 10

Baghdad, Jan 16, (VOI)- 

Casualties from the bomb blast that ripped through Bab al-Mua'adham region in central Baghdad on Wednesday morning have reached 10, including three dead and seven wounded, a police source said.

"The toll from the explosion that took place in a bus station in Bab al-Mua'adham region in central Baghdad has reached three dead and seven wounded," the source Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI) under condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told (VOI) that the bomb exploded near the colleges compound in Bab al-Mua'adham region in central Baghdad and ambulances rushed to the area to carry bodies and wounded.

A police source had said earlier "a roadside bomb, planted near a bus station, went off in the wee small hours of the morning in Bab al-Mua'adham region in central Baghdad, killing two persons and injuring four.

Two blasts kill 3, injure 8 in Baghdad

Three persons were killed and eight more were wounded on Wednesday morning in three synchronized explosions in central and southern Baghdad, said a police source.

"A roadside bomb, planted near a bus station, went off in the wee small hours of the morning in Bab al-Mua'adham region in central Baghdad, killing two persons and injuring four," the source, who asked to be unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"Two other bombs exploded simultaneously in al-Za'afaraniya region on the road leading to al-Nahrawan in southern Baghdad, killing one persons and wounding four others," he explained.

Female bomber kills, wounds 15 in Ba'aqouba

Ba'aqouba, Jan 16, (VOI)- 

At least Eight persons were killed and seven others were injured on Wednesday when a female suicide bomber blew herself up amid a popular marketplace in Ba'aqouba, an official security source said.

"A female suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to her body amid the main market in Khan Bani Sa'ad district near Bani Sa'ad mosque in Ba'aqouba, killing eight and injuring seven," the source, who preferred not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). He did not add more details. A security source had said earlier that a woman suicide attacker detonated explosives strapped to her body amid a market in Diala province, central Iraq, leaving a number of casualties. Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Two brothers killed, kidnapped near Kirkuk

Unknown gunmen killed a person and kidnapped his brother southwest of Kirkuk, a police source said on Wednesday morning.

"Unidentified armed men on Tuesday night stormed a house near Touz Khormato district, southwest of Kirkuk, killing one man and kidnapping his brother, a policeman," the source told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI) under condition of anonymity. He did not provide further details. Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad.
