Israeli occupation government retains 100 Palestinian professors, 900 students in its jails

[ 14/01/2008 - 07:44 PM ]

Ramallah, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation government (IOG) is still retaining almost 100 Palestinian university professors and 888 university students in its jails including a big number of holders of higher degrees, Dr. Mousa Ajwa, former chairman of the union of Palestinian university professors and employees, said.

He told a delegation of British colleges, institutions and universities on Sunday that the IOG was trying all means possible to deprive Palestinian students of their right to education.

Dr. Ajwa said that the IOG barricades and separation wall blocked hundreds of students from reaching their faculties, other than closing Palestinian universities for long periods of time.

The IOG deliberately humiliates university professors and other highly educated figures through arresting, handcuffing and throwing them into jails before holding them under administrative detention without any charge or trial, he elaborated.

Dr. Ajwa also pointed out that the IOG bars the travel of hundreds of students abroad to complete their varsity studies or to acquire higher degrees.
