Diala, Jan 12, (VOI) – 

Four security men were wounded in a car bomb attack in the district of al-Muqdadiya, 45 km northeast of Ba'aquba, on Saturday, police said. 

"A car bomb went off near a checkpoint in al-Wajihiya area of Muqdadiya, wounding four security men," a police source, who refused to have his name mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

Diala is witnessing a military operation codenamed Heroes' Harvest, a security plan enforced by joint Iraqi-U.S. forces with the aim of hunting down armed groups in the province. Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Policeman killed, 1 wounded by gunmen fire in Basra

Basra, Jan 12, (VOI) – 

A policeman was killed and another wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen in central Basra, a police source said. 

"Two gunmen on a motorbike opened fire at two policemen on duty guarding the Basra Teaching Hospital gates, killing one and inuring another," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity. 

The port city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

3 civilians killed in fuel tank explosion

Missan, Jan 12, (VOI) – 

Three civilians were killed on Saturday when a tank carrying fuel exploded in a road accident in southern Missan province, a health official said. 

"The al-Sadr Public Hospital's morgue in al-Amara received on Saturday morning three charred bodies as a result of a road accident in which a vehicle collided with a tank carrying fuel," Dr. Ali Mahmoud, the head of the Missan health department, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

"The accident, as we were notified by the police, occurred near the Qalaat Saleh district, (45 km) south of Amara, where a vehicle slid due to bad weather and hit the fuel tank," he said. Amara, the capital of Missan province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.

6 killed in two attacks in Salah al-Din

Salah al-Din, Jan 12, (VOI) – 

Six individuals, including security personnel, were killed in two separate attacks in Salah al-Din province, Iraqi police said on Saturday.

"At an early hour of Saturday morning, gunmen raided a house in al-Dawdiya village, eastern Dalou'iya, killing Ziyad Ibrahim, a former Iraqi army officer, and his 14-year-old son," a local police source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

"Meanwhile, other gunmen opened fire on a nearby house, killing an awakening council fighter and three of his sons," the source added, providing no further details. Several awakening councils have been set up in a number of Iraqi provinces, including Al-Anbar, Diala, Ninewa and Salah al-Din, with the aim of building a pan-tribal alliance against (Iraqi fighters opposing US forces). The councils are usually chaired by tribal leaders who have forged an alliance with the Iraqi security apparatus and U.S. forces.

Dalou'iya district is affiliated with Salah al-Din and lies 90 km north of the Iraqi capital, while Tikrit, the capital city of the province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

Yaqen.net news agency reported the following news on January 12, 2008:

- US forces killed a civilian Iraqi man north of Falloujah.

- A US soldier was killed on Friday, in Al-Ambar.

- 3 high-pressure electric towers were destroyed in an attack, northwest of Mosul.

- 4 Iraqi guards were injured in an explosion in Diala.

- US forces were attacked with three roadside bombs in Baghdad.

- The vast majority of victims killed in US air strikes on Arab Jubour, south of Baghdad were women and children. In one of the destroyed houses, a family of ten was killed and their bodies are still under the rubble.
