Samarra, Jan 11, (VOI)- 

Iraqi security forces killed two al-Qaeda gunmen and captured two more during a security operation northeast of Samarra city, a security source said on Friday.

"Joint Iraqi army-police forces killed two (Iraqi fighters) and detained two others in Samarra on Friday night," the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"Fierce clashes flared up between Iraqi forces and Iraqi fighters in Buherat al-Malh region, northeast of Samarra, during which two (Iraqi fighters) were killed and two others were detained," he explained.

Car bomb leaves 10 casualties in Baghdad

Baghdad, Jan 11, (VOI)- 

At least two persons were killed and eight others were injured on Friday night when a booby-trapped car went off in eastern Baghdad, a source from interior ministry said. 

"A suicide bomber blew up a car rigged with explosives in al-Ghadier neighborhood in eastern Baghdad," the source, who asked anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

"The blast killed two persons and injured eight, in addition to destroying a number of nearby stores," he also said. "Security forces sealed off the area, preventing pedestrians or vehicles from entering the region," he noted.

Three unknown bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad, Jan 11, (VOI)- 

Iraqi police patrols found three unidentified bodies dumped in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad during the last 24 hours, an interior ministry source said on Friday.

"Police patrols found three unknown corpses dumped in various parts of the Baghdad during the last 24 hours," the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The source added "one body was found in Kamb Sara neighborhood in eastern side of Baghdad, while the second and third bodies were found in al-Doura and Iskan neighborhoods in al-Karkh, western side of the capital."
"The bodies had gunshot wounds mainly to the head," he said.

 U.S. forces killed two gunmen and detained 11 other suspects today and Thursday during operations targeting (Iraqi fighters') networks in central and northern Iraq, the U.S. army said on Friday. (VOI).

U.S. forces raid northern Baghdad

Baghdad, Jan 11, (VOI) – 

U.S. forces launched a raid of arrests in the northern Baghdad town of al-Hurriya, where small arms clashes with gunmen erupted during the early hours of Friday, eyewitnesses said. "U.S. soldiers raided several houses in al-Hurriya, arrested a number of civilians and raided the al-Askari Mosque in the same area," a local resident told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

Another witness told VOI that clashes "with machine-guns continued between the raiding force and gunmen from the area for more than half an hour but no casualties on either side were reported." The witness could not recognize the identity of the gunmen who clashed with the U.S. forces nor determine the number of people arrested. The U.S. side was not available immediately for comments on the incident.

Commanders tout success of Iraq strikes

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- 

Yesterday, two B1-B bombers and four F-16 fighter jets dropped 48 precision-guided bombs on 47 targets, on Arab Jubour, south of Baghdad, U.S. Air Force Col. Peter Donnelly, commander of the 18th Expeditionary Air Support Operations Group, told reporters in Baghdad.

Mustapha Kamil Shibeeb al-Jubouri, leader of Arab Jabour's (US-recruited) Awakening Council, said the airstrikes killed at least 21 (Iraqi fighters) including a group leader.

Conway said the air attack "was one of the largest airstrikes since the onset of the war" in March 2003.

An AP reporter in Zambaraniyah observed that the bombing continued until Thursday evening.

The military said Friday that coalition forces killed two (more Iraqi fighters) and detained 11 suspects over the past two days in central and northern Iraq.
