Israeli occupation gunboats fire at Rafah City, retreat under Palestinian resistance fire QB confronts IOF gunboats [ 10/01/2008 - 11:37 AM ] RAFAH, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) gunboats fired heavy machineguns at Palestinian areas in Rafah city south of the Gaza Strip on Thursday and were confronted by Qassam Brigades fighters. Qassam sources told PIC correspondent that the gunboats were forced to retreat after the QB fighters fired at them. The same armed wing claimed responsibility for firing 28 mortar shells at IOF positions south of the Gaza Strip on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Israeli military court in Ofer sentenced detained PLC member Ahmed Al-Haj to six months of administrative detention, without charge or trial. Haj was kidnapped at the hands of IOF troops on 16/12/2007 in a campaign that rounded up 31 Hamas leaders, cadres and supporters in Nablus. The Nafha society defending human and prisoners' rights lashed out at the Ofer court's ruling, describing it as "arbitrary" especially when the MP was almost 70 years old. It also noted in a report on the past month of December that the current period is the worst for Palestinian prisoners in occupation jails.
