8 Palestinians killed in renewed Hamas-Fateh clashes On the New Year's Eve, 8 Palestinians killed in renewed Hamas-Fatah clashes Date: 01 / 01 / 2008 Time: 10:25 Gaza – Ma'an – The residents of Gaza Strip, namely, Al-Sabra and Al-Shuja'iya neighborhoods in Gaza city were unable to sleep on the New Year's Eve as clashes did not stop between the Hamas-affiliated police, the Dugmush family and Fateh' supporters, Ma'an's reporter said. Palestinian medical sources at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza city announced the death of Muhmoud Dughmush and Sulaiman Al-Diry in the clashes. According to eyewitnesses in Al-Sabra neighborhood, clashes erupted as a group of policemen attempted to a prevent shooting into the air from a house belonging to Dughmush family and to remove flags from the top of that house. As the police left, they came under fire which left three of them injured. Immediately, back-up police forces arrived, besieged the area and set fire to the house. Clashes lasted from 2 to 5:00 am. Fierce clashes erupted also at Al-Shuja'iyya neighborhood between the de facto government's police and gun men from Hillis family near the home of the Fateh leader, Ahmed Hillis. As a result, a member of the Hillis family was killed and several others were injured including policemen. The deceased is believed to be Ahmed Hillis's nephew. Earlier on Monday evening, Gaza Strip witnessed bloody clashes in different areas between Fateh supporters and the Hamas-affiliated police leaving behind 6 people dead and many injured. Palestinian medical sources named the deceased as Thabit Hillis from Al-Shuja'iyya, Hussain Mushtaha, aged 25, Mahmoud Taha (35), and Umar Asfour (20), a police officer, in addition to a child named Muhammed Abu Al-Wafa and an elderly man, Muhammed Abu Dalkh, aged 61. Fateh and Hamas traded accusations and each side blamed the other holding it responsible for the bloody clashes.
