Israel postpones a meeting with Costa Rican president

Israel postponed on Monday a meeting which was scheduled between an Israeli diplomat and the president of Costa Rica Oscar Arias Sanchez after Costa Rica decided to recognize the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Spokesperson of the Israeli foreign ministry Arye Mekel said on Monday that Israel sent a message to the government of Costa Rica expressing disappointment at the decision ratified three weeks ago to establish diplomatic relations with Palestine.

The spokesperson described the move as contradictory to the friendly relations between Israel and Costa Rica.

For his part, the foreign minister of Costa Rica explained that his country's decision was meant to push forward the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.
