Historic Supreme Islamic Council Building in Occupied Jerusalem Demolished by Israeli Occupation Government

IOA destroys historic Islamic building in O. Jerusalem

[ 21/02/2008 - 10:05 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation government (IOG) has demolished the historic building of the Supreme Islamic Council in the occupied city of Jerusalem with the aim to build hotels owned by rich Jewish businessmen on its ruins, sources in the Aqsa foundation asserted.

The foundation that watches for Muslim holy places in the city accused the Israeli occupation government of distorting the city's Muslim identity through such demolitions.

"Big Israeli bulldozers had completely destroyed the building but retaining only the front façade which will incorporated in the new construction after all signs indicating the Muslim identity of the building were distorted", asserted the AF in a statement it issued in this regard and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC.

The foundation cited a number of Israeli procedures that expose the Israeli intention of judaizing the occupied Palestinian city, including confiscating properties of Palestinian Jerusalemites and canceling the residency  of many of them in addition to imposing high taxes on them in order to force them to leave the city among other practices.

According to the AF, rich American and European Jews known for their strong support for the Israeli occupation government and known for their financial support of the illegal Israeli settlement projects in the city will reportedly own those hotels "to become closer to the Aqsa Mosque and to easily perform their rituals in it".

In the year 2000, former Israeli premier Ariel Sharon who was then a minister, attempted to desecrate the Aqsa Mosque; yet, his infamous visit sparked the Palestinian Aqsa intifada.

The SIC building is located close to the historic Mamanullah cemetery where tens of the Sahaba (companions of Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him) were buried.

The building was constructed in 1929 on orders of the late Palestinian Jerusalemite leader Shaikh Amin Al-Hussaini who ordered the construction at a time the Zionist Movement was building up its Zionist project and constructing more Jewish buildings in the city.
