26 Iraqis, 3 Arabs Killed in War Attacks, Including 9 Executed by Death Squads, According to February 19, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net news agency reported the following news today:

- Two policemen were injured by a roadside bomb targeting their vehicle in Mosul.
- Three policemen were injured by a roadside bomb targeting their vehicle on the Beiji-Tikrit road.
- US bases in Al-Obaidi and Al-Rustimiyah areas of Baghdad were attacked with 12 katyousha rockets.
- One Iraqi soldier was killed, three were injured by a car bomb in Mosul.
- 4 US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed, two were injured, in Khan Bani Sa'ad.
- Police chief Taha Al-Zuhairi of Khan Bani Sa'ad was killed by gunmen fire.
- Four national guardsmen were injured in an attack in Tikrit.
- US-recruited Sahwa chief, Amer Al-Hayaz, and two of his guards were killed in Al-Riyadh, south of Kirkuk.
-  A policeman was killed, four were injured, by a roadside bomb, east of Kirkuk.

Mortar attack wounds civilian in Baghdad

One civilian was injured on Tuesday in a mortar attack in southern Baghdad, said a police source.
"Three mortar rounds landed in Abu Dashier district in al-Doura neighborhood in southern Baghdad," the source told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
"The attack injured a civilian and caused material damage to two houses," he noted.
"Police started a searching campaign to hunt down the attackers," he added.

Female body found in eastern Mosul

Police forces on Tuesday found an unknown female body in a cemetery in eastern Mosul, an official police source said.
"Police patrols found this evening an unknown female body in al-Karama cemetery in eastern Mosul," the source, who asked anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
"The bullet-riddled body bore signs of torture," he added.
"There is a sign that the body could be slaughtered," the source pointed out.
He did not provide further details.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

8 Katyusha rockets hit two U.S. bases in Baghdad

Eight Katyusha rockets simultaneously hit two U.S. bases in eastern Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said on Tuesday. "Eight Katyusha rockets landed on two U.S. bases in eastern side of Baghdad, with no reports on casualties," the source told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI) on condition of anonymity. "The first four rockets landed on the base in al-Ubaidi region in eastern Baghdad, while the other four hit the base in al-Rustoumiya region in southeastern Baghdad," the source added.

Police find three unknown bodies in Baghdad

    Baghdad, Feb 19, (VOI)- Iraqi police patrols found on Tuesday three unidentified bodies dumped in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said. "Police patrols found three unknown corpses dumped in various parts of Baghdad," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq -Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The source added "two bodies were found in Baghdad's eastern neighborhoods of al-Ubaidi and al-Sink, while the third body was found in al-Sidiya quarter, western Baghdad." "The bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SH/SR

7 Iraqi soldiers injured in Salah el-Din

Seven Iraqi soldiers were injured on Tuesday in two separate incidents in Tikrit and Baiji, said a police source. "An improvised explosive device went off, targeting an Iraqi army vehicle patrol in central Tikrit, wounding four soldiers and damaging one of the patrol's vehicles," the source, who asked to remain anonymous, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"The forces cordoned off the area and deployed around it, where they found another bomb which they defused," he added. "Three soldiers were wounded when unknown gunmen opened fire on them on the main road near Baiji, north of Baghdad," the same source said. Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. SH/SR

4 soldiers killed, wounded in Mosul

    Mosul, Feb 19, (VOI) -

One Iraqi soldier was killed and three more were injured on Tuesday in a suicide attack targeting an Iraqi army checkpoint in western Mosul, the official spokesman for the Ninewa operations said. "A suicide bomber blew up a car rigged with explosives targeting a building belonging to Iraqi police and army forces in al-Mosul al-Jadida region in western Mosul," Brig. Khaled Abdul Sattar Saadon told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"The attack killed an Iraqi soldier and wounded three others, including a solider and two policemen," he added. "The attack also caused partial damage to the building," the brigadier explained. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad. SH/SR

4 civilians wounded by mortars in Anbar

Four individuals were wounded when mortar shells landed in central Anna city, Anbar province, a local security source said on Tuesday. "Two mortars fired from an unknown location landed on Tuesday morning near al-Siddeeq Mosque in downtown Anna city, wounding four civilians," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq, Voices of Iraq, (VOI).

Ambulances and police forces rushed to the scene, which was sealed off immediately after the blast.   Anna, one of Anbar's most stable cities, is 212 km from Ramadi, the capital city of the province which lies 110 km west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.   SS/SR

Civilian killed, hostage freed in Mosul

    Ninewa, Feb 19, (VOI) –

Unidentified gunmen killed a civilian while the Republican Hospital received from the U.S. forces an unidentified man seriously wounded, a security source said on Tuesday. "Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a civilian in his vehicle before entering a fuel station in al-Qahira neighborhood, northern Mosul, and then escaped. The man was killed instantly," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on customary condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, the Republican Hospital received an unidentified seriously wounded man, the same source said, adding the U.S. forces carried the wounded man from the U.S. base in southern Mosul to the hospital without any information on the incident.

British base in Basra comes under Katyusha attacks

Two attacks with Katyusha rockets targeted the British base in the Basra International Airport but caused no casualties, the media spokesman for the Multi-National Force (MNF) in southern Iraq said. "Two separate attacks with Katyusha missiles targeted the British base in the city's airport, west of Basra, during the early hours of Tuesday but left no casualties because most of the rockets fell outside the base," the MNF media center said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

British soldiers were stationed in one base - the Basra International Airport, 25 km northeast of the province - after handing over the former presidential palaces, which they took as a military base, to the Iraqi forces. The British forces in Basra, 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, keep 5,250 troops within the MNF in Iraq after withdrawing 1,600 soldiers during the past months. Britain was the United States' prime ally in the March 2003 invasion of Iraq. Ceremonies to hand over security responsibilities in Basra province from the British forces to the Iraqi authorities took place at the Basra International Airport in December 2007. AE

Key al-Qaeda member arrested, 3 Arab gunmen killed in Samarra

A leading member of al-Qaeda network in Iraq was arrested and three gunmen carrying Arab passports were killed in southwest Samarra on Tuesday, a police source in the city said. 

"Quick Intervention forces in Samarra arrested Muhammad al-Rahmani, a leader of al-Qaeda Organization in Iraq, in a raid on the al-Hai al-Sinaie neighborhood in Samarra during the early hours of Tuesday and seized medium and light arms in his hideout," the source, who did not want his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"Investigated, Rahmani confessed to the presence of three gunmen of Arab nationalities in the area of Sukhaira, (4 km) southwest of Samarra," he said. "A force headed to the place and exchanged fire with the three gunmen, killing all of them. The force also found missiles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), light arms and rubber boats in the gunmen's hideout," the source added. He indicated that two of the killed gunmen were Saudis and the third an Algerian, noting the three bodies were carried to the U.S. base in the Samarra silo. Samarra, a city in Salah al-Din province, lies 100 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AE

4 family members killed in Ba'aqouba

Four people of the same family were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen in a village in Ba'aqouba city on Tuesday, a security source said. 

"Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a displaced family of four while on their way back to their original dwelling in the al-Sheikh village in the district of al-Muradiya, (4 km) west of Ba'aqouba," The source, who declined to reveal his name out of security concerns, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). "The two parents and their two children were killed in the attack," the source indicated. Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AE

3 civilians killed, wounded in IED attack in central Baghdad

    Baghdad, Feb 19, (VOI) –

A woman was killed and two civilians others wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in central Baghdad on Tuesday morning, police said. "An IED planted on the main road in al-Waziriya district, central Baghdad, went off near a civilian vehicle on Tuesday morning, killing a woman and wounding two others," a security source, who declined to give his name, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The explosion damaged the vehicle the three civilians were boarding," the source said, adding "the two wounded civilians were rushed to a nearby hospital after security forces sealed off the scene." Earlier on Tuesday an Iraqi police source said five people were killed and a policeman wounded when an IED in a bag inside a taxi cab went off in al-Mansour neighborhood, western Baghdad. "The IED killed four people of the same family and the cab driver and wounded a policeman who happened to be near the explosion site," the source, who declined to be named, told VOI, not giving more information. IED kills 5, wounds policeman in western Baghdad   Baghdad - Voices of Iraq

Five people were killed and a policeman wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) in a bag inside a taxi cab went off in al-Mansour neighborhood, western Baghdad, on Tuesday, an Iraqi police source said. 

"The IED killed four people of the same family and the cab driver and wounded a policeman who happened to be near the explosion site," the source, who declined to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

The source did not give further details. AE
