Israeli occupation government orders demolition of 15 houses and a health clinic near Hebron

Date: 11 / 02 / 2008  Time:  13:43
Bethlehem – Ma'an –

The Israeli Civil Administration has issued demolition orders for 15 Palestinians houses and a health clinic in the Beqa'a Valley near Hebron, international human rights workers said on Monday.

The inhabitants of the houses have been given until February 14th to quit the area on the pretext that the houses and clinic were built without hard-to-obtain construction permits, the organization Christian Peacemaker Teams says.

The Israeli Civil Administration refused to grant a building permit for the health despite the difficulties residents encounter in reaching other health facilities outside of the valley. Because of this, the Palestinians in the valley have been operating the clinic out of an existing house.

Between 600 and 700 people, mostly women and children, would use the new clinic for routine medical care, including prenatal checkups and vaccinations.

A farmer of the Jaber family from the Beqa'a Valley said, "We want the world to know that with our new clinic that has the demolition order, if there was an automobile accident on the Bypass Route 60, and Israelis were injured and could not get to a hospital, we would give them medical treatment right here in this Palestinian clinic. Tell the world."

Israeli authorities have already demolished the farmer's home three times.

Six of the homes slated for demolition were rebuilt by the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) rebuilt after previous demolitions.

Settlers attempt to demolish a Palestinian house in Hebron

Monday February 11, 2008 22:42 by IMEMC Staff saed at imemc dot org

The Palestinian Popular (Folk) Committees reported on Monday that an extremist settlers group attempted to  demolish a Palestinian house in Bani Neim village, near the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The settlers are from Bani Hefar illegal settlement outpost. The settlers attacked the home, which is mainly under construction, destroyed the windows, doors and stones used for constructing the house.

Israeli occupation soldiers were present in the area but did not attempt to stop the settlers.
Azmi Shiokhy, secretary-general of the Committee slammed the attack and stated that it is part of ongoing violations carried by settlers and soldiers in an attempt to force the residents out of the area and cease their land.

Shiokhy added that the ongoing settlement construction and expansion in villages around Hebron, and the rest of the West Bank,  is a direct violation to the rights of the residents and their lands, and a violation to the international law.
