Bahraini officials arrive in Cairo to negotiate the passage of Nasser Al-Faddala and his delegation out of Gaza

Bahraini officials arrive in Cairo to negotiate the passage of delegation out of Gaza

Date: 10 / 02 / 2008  Time:  15:47
Gaza – Ma'an –

A Bahraini royal delegation landed in Cairo on Sunday on a mission to negotiate the passage of another group of Bahraini officials out of the Gaza Strip, who refuse to cross through the Israeli-controlled Kerem Shalom crossing, Bahraini lawmaker Nasser Al-Faddala said.

The Bahraini officials traveled to Gaza a week ago to gather facts on the situation in the hermetically-sealed territory. They pledged to help lift the Israeli siege and to support Gaza with economic aid. After Egyptian authorities resealed the Rafah border, the Bahrainis were told to leave through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

In solidarity with Palestinians, the group has rejected this option, demanding passage through the Palestinian-Egyptian controlled Rafah crossing.

Al-Faddalah, who is a member of the delegation in the Gaza Strip said, "We are not being detained in the Gaza Strip, and we live in dignity awaiting official measures between countries."

He added, "We will not leave Gaza except through a crossing controlled by Egyptian and Palestinian authorities; we will not leave through a crossing under control of the Israeli enemy."

As to whether the delegation represents the Bahraini government, he said, "I am heading the Palestine committee in the Bahraini parliament, and I came to practice the role vested in me by the Bahraini people. The rest of the delegation came to play a relief role and offer aid."

A spokesperson of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) appealed to the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to secure the return of the Bahraini delegation through the Rafah crossing.
