The army attempted to stop the protest but the protesters marched through the deployed forces and managed to reach a Wall construction on the village’s land. Soldiers declared the area a closed military zone but the protesters continued their peaceful protest. Troops fired rubber-coated bullets and gas bombs at the protesters causing a number of injuries. Salah Al-Khawaja, media coordinator of the Ni’lin Committee Against the Wall, said that soldiers kidnapped on Saturday two children after breaking into their homes in the village. IOF troops kidnap 107 Palestinians within a week [ 23/08/2008 - 10:11 PM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- The PA prisoners and ex-prisoners' affairs ministry confirmed Sunday that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) have kidnapped close to 107 Palestinian citizens since it announced its intention to release of 199 Palestinian captives from Israeli jails last week as a goodwill gesture to Mahmoud Abbas. "Although the IOA endorsed the release of the 199 Palestinians, the IOF troops arrest campaigns against the Palestinian people didn’t stop as around 107 Palestinian citizen were rounded up at the hands of the IOF troops", asserted Riyadh Al-Ashqar, the information officer in the ministry. He also explained that the release of every Palestinian captive was important for the ministry and for the Palestinian people although many of those set to be released were about to finish their imprisonment terms, or those who were serving light imprisonment terms. But he made it clear that what was indeed considered to be great for the Palestinian people was to succeed in freeing old prisoners and those who have been in jail for more than ten years. Moreover, Ashqar urged the Palestinian negotiator not to rely on the Israeli "gestures of goodwill" because, he stressed, the Israeli occupation has no "goodwill" as evident with the prisoners' harsh living condition inside the jails. Three Palestinian resistance factions, including Hamas Movement, captured Israeli occupation soldier Gilad Shalit two years ago, and set a number of conditions to set him free, including releasing Palestinian children and women captives, and those who served long imprisonment terms among others. The IOA refused to meet those humanitarian demands so far.
