11 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 5 by US Forces, Hillary Clinton in Haditha, According to August 18, 2008 News Reports


- A US-recruited Sahwa fighter was killed in Kirkuk.

- US soldiers killed two Iraqi civilians inside their car, near Arbil.

- 3 Iraqi fighters were killed by US forces in Haditha, after a tip by US-recruited Sahwa fighters.

- Hillary Clinton walked in the streets of Haditha, guarded by US forces and US-recruited Sahwa fighters. It is noteworthy that Clinton is visiting this Iraqi city in Al-Anbar Province after Obama had visited Al-Ramadi.

BAGHDAD, Iraqi security forces arrested 20 wanted men and defused six bombs in separate areas of Baghdad over the past 24 hours, the Baghdad's operations command said on Monday.

NINEWA, A Kurdish Peshmerga officer was injured when an improvised explosive device went off targeting a vehicle patrol of Peshmerga fighters in western Mosul, a Peshmerga source said on Monday.

WASSIT, Police forces on Monday arrested three suspected gunmen, believed to have killed an Iraqi-U.S. trader inside his house in the city of Kut last month, a police source said.

NINEWA, The mayor of the city of Mosul on Monday escaped an attempt on his life in the northern part of the city, during which one of his bodyguard was injured.

WASSIT, Commander of U.S. forces in Wassit on Monday said that Georgian forces operating in the province completed their withdrawal from Iraq, excluding a force for logistic support.

BASRA, Police forces on Monday arrested eight persons, believed to have killed and injured three employees in Basra, a police source said.

DIALA, A force from the Kurdish Peshmerga fighters withdrew from the Qurat Teba district in Khaneqeen district in Diala, while Iraqi army forces assumed the responsibility there, said a security source.

DIALA, The Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MOI) on Monday held a military parade for its forces in Ba'aqouba suburb, said a security source from Diala province.

NINEWA, Three security elements were wounded in a bomb explosion, while a policeman was injured by a sniper fire in two separate incidents in Mosul, a police source said on Monday.

DIALA, Security forces in Diala arrested 460 wanted persons, while roughly 1323 others surrendered to the forces since the commencement of Operation Bashaer al-Kheir (Promise of Good) in the province, the Iraqi ministry of interior's official spokesperson said on Monday.

SALAH AL-DIN, A U.S. helicopter crashed in a village in al-Dor district, Salah al-Din province, on Monday, a source from the al-Dor police said.

BAGHDAD, Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad al-Seniora is paying a landmark visit to Iraq this for talks with Iraqi Premier Nouri al-Maliki on a host of political and economic issues of mutual concern, an Iraqi government spokesman said on Monday.

BASRA, Unidentified gunmen killed two employees of the Independent Elections Commission office in Basra province and seriously wounded a third on Monday, a source from the office said.

BAGHDAD, Unidentified gunmen assassinated a cleric working for the Shi'i Shahid al-Mihrab Foundation in the southern Baghdad area of al-Za'afaraniya on Monday, police said.

DIALA, One civilian man was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted the house of an Iraqi army officer northeast of Ba'aqouba city on Monday, a security source in Diala said.
