Omri Burbag, the battalion commander who had been suspended for ordering a soldier to shoot the bound and blindfolded Palestinian peace activist, Ashraf Abu Rahma, in the village of Ni'lin, has been appointed to an army traniner.

Major General Avi Mizrahi, the head of the Israeli occupation ground forces, said on Wednesday that Burbag would be appointed as a trainer for Israeli army personnel.

The Hebrew version of the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth also quoted Israeli Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi as saying that he did doubt that Burbag would become a unit commander once again, and would even become an officer in Ni'lin in the future.

Burbag was videotaped ordering an Israeli soldier to shoot a blindfolded Palestinian demonstrator in the leg with a rubber-coated metal bullet. The video, released by the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem, resulted in an investigation and the eventual suspension of Burbag.

The Israeli Judge Advocate General found Burbag guilty of "inappropriate conduct," a relatively light charge, and he was allowed to remain in the military.

The Israeli military regularly uses violent means to disperse demonstrations against the Israeli segregation wall in Ni'lin and other villages.
