3 US Soldiers, 29 Iraqis Killed, According to April 9, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net reported that a US Hummer vehicle was destroyed south of Haditha with a roadside bomb, killing and injuring its crew.

- US military base called Kilometer 35 in the Western area was rocketed today.

- Iraqis in Abu Gharib and Al-Falloujah protested the US occupation of Iraq in the 5th anniversary of the US invasion. However, Iraqis in Samarra and Tikrit were prevented from protesting the event by a curfew imposed on the two cities.

The Iraq News Agency (INA) reported that 13 Iraqis were killed, 30 were injured in Sadr City today as a result of the fighting between US forces and Mahdi Army militiamen. One missile killed seven people in one house, including three children.

Car bomb explosion leaves 12 casualties in Ninewa

Two individuals, including a policemen,were killed and ten others wounded in a car bomb explosion in central Mosul, a Ninewa security source said. "A car bomb targeting a police patrol blew up in Al-Sa'a district," a police source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The source pointed out "the blast left two individuals, including a policeman, killed and ten others wounded in a primary toll for the accident." Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AM/SR

Gunmen kill civilian in Kirkuk

A civilian was killed in an armed attack in Kirkuk on Wedesneday, a police source said. "Gunmen driving a modern vehicle attacked a civlian, near his home in Khizicha village of Rashad town, 35 km south Kirkuk, shooting him dead," a Kirkuk police source, who requested anonmity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The source pointed out "an investigation was filed for the killing motivations, which remain unknown." Kirkuk, the capital city of Kirkuk province, lies 250 km noth Baghdad. AM

Roadside bomb kills 3rd U.S. serviceman in Baghdad

Baghdad, Apr 9, (VOI) -

The U.S. army said a third serviceman was killed in a roadside bomb in Baghdad on Wednesday as Iraq marked the fifth anniversary of the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. "A Multi-National Division – Center soldier was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack while conducting operations east of Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on April 8," said a U.S. military statement received by Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The killing of the soldier puts the death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq at 4027 since the start of military operations in March of 2003.

U.S. serviceman dies in Baghdad

The U.S. army said on Wednesday that one serviceman died from non-combat related injuries in Baghdad.

“A Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldier died from non-combat related injuries at approximately 5:30 a.m. April 9,” the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“The incident is under investigation,” the statement added.
The death brings to 4026 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the beginning of military operations in March 2003.

14 U.S. soldiers have so far been killed in April.

U.S. soldier killed in northeastern Baghdad

A U.S. soldier was killed as a result of a bomb explosion in northeastern Baghdad, the U.S. army said.

“A Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldier was killed as the result of an improvised explosive device attack at approximately 12:30 p.m. in northeast Baghdad April 8,” the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

The statement added “the IED struck the vehicle he was riding in.”
The death brings to 4025 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the beginning of military operations in March 2003.

MNF kills two armed men in Baghdad

A U.S. Air Force Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) killed two gunmen on Wednesday in northeastern Baghdad, the Multi-National Forces in Iraq (MNF-I) said.

“A U.S. Air Force Unmanned Aerial Vehicle observed a group of criminals with weapons attacking Iraqi Security and Coalition forces with small-arms fire in northeast Baghdad April 9,” the spokesman for the Multi-National Division – Baghdad and 4th Infantry Division said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq (VOI).

“The UAV fired one hellfire missile at 3:30 a.m. and killed two of the armed criminals,” said Lt. Col. Steve Stover.

“In direct partnership with the Iraqi Security Forces, we will protect the people of Baghdad from armed criminals,” He added. “We want to bring back security and stability to the eastern Baghdad districts in order to set the conditions for continued economical development.”

Missile kills 5 civilians, injures 22 in Sadr City

Baghdad, Apr 9, (VOI)-

At least five civilians were killed and 22 others were wounded on Wednesday in a missile attack on Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, a source from the Sadrist bloc said.

“A missile landed this morning on a number of houses in section 26 in Sadr City,” the source, who requested for anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“The explosion killed five civilians and wounded 22, most of them were sent to Imam Ali hospital inside Sadr City,” he added.
“A number of houses and civilian properties were damaged in the attack,” he also said.
He did not mention other details.
Sadr City has being placed under curfew since the last week of March after fierce clashes that broke out between Iraqi security forces and Shiite Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s Mahdi army.
Local residents had said earlier a number of mortar shells fell into residential areas in Sadr City, leaving unspecified number of casualties.

Two unknown corpses found in Kirkuk

Iraqi police found on Wednesday two unknown corpses dumped in the eastern part of Kirkuk, 250 km northeast of Baghdad, a police source said.

“The bodies were found on the main road linking  Aarafah quarter to Rahim Awah neighborhood in eastern Kirkuk,” the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).
The source added that both corpses had gunshot wounds to different parts of the body.

Baghdad operations command: 3 gunmen killed, 33 suspects arrested

    Baghdad, Apr 9, (VOI) –

Baghdad operations command announced on Wednesday that three gunmen were killed and 33 suspects were arrested in Baghdad city, during the last 24 hours. "Security forces arrested 25 wanted gunmen and eight suspects at different places of Baghdad during the last 24 hours," the command said in a release received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). 

"Security forces also killed three armed men, and seized a large weapons and ammunitions cache in al-Mahmoudiya suburb, south of Baghdad," it added "Security forces defused two roadside bombs," the release proceeded. It explained "four security elements were killed, including an officer, and 19 others were wounded, including two officers, in the operations." Baghdad operations command decided on Tuesday to impose a curfew over Baghdad city on Wednesday, preventing vehicles and motorcycles from moving. MH/SR  

One woman killed, two children wounded in Ba'aqouba

One woman was killed on Wednesday, and two children were wounded when five mortar shells hit a residential neighborhood, in the center of Ba'aqouba city, said an authorized security source in Diala province. "Five unknown mortar shells hit residential houses in al-Gaton neighborhood in Ba'aqouba suburb," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on condition of anonymity.  "One woman was killed, and two children were wounded in the attack, in addition to the total destruction of a residential house," he added The source did not reveal any further details. Ba'aqouba, capital city of Diala province, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad. MH/SR

12 people killed, 26 wounded in Iraq

12 people were killed, including two U.S. soldiers and one Iraqi woman, and 26 others were wounded on Wednesday, while security forces arrested 31 suspects and found two unknown corpses in the violent acts that took place throughout Iraq over the last 24 hours, security sources said.
In Baghdad, the U.S. army announced that one of its soldiers was killed, but not in combat operations, raising the death toll of U.S. militaries in Iraq to 4026, since the beginning of operations in Iraq in March 2003.

On Tuesday evening, the U.S. army announced that one of its soldiers was killed when a roadside bomb exploded targeting a U.S. vehicle, northeast of Baghdad.
Multi National Forces (MNF) in Iraq said that a U.S. airforce UAV killed two gunmen on Wednesday, northeast of Baghdad.

A source from the Sadr movement said that five civilians were killed and 22 others were wounded on Wednesday when a missile hit a number of residential houses in Sadr city, east of Baghdad.
In Mosul, the official spokesperson for Ninewa operations command, Brigadier Khalid Abdul-Sattar, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) that Iraqi army forces arrested on Tuesday 11 gunmen in a security operation, west of Mosul city.

On the same day, a roadside bomb detonated targeting a police patrol in 'Garage al-Shemal' area, east of Mosul, wounding one woman.

In Salah al-Din, a police source told VOI that two unknown mortar shells hit on Tuesday's evening a house at al-Sideeq village, east of al-Dhilo'iya, killing one woman, seriously wounding three others from the same family, and causing severe damages in the house.

In Karbala, province's police commander, Major General Ra'ed Shaker Jawdat, said "on Tuesday, 428 detainees among 550 that were arrested by security forces during the recent confrontations in the province, were released."

In Diala, the province's police commander Major General Ghanem al-Qoraishi said on Tuesday that six al-Qaeda fighters were arrested in a combined military operation, south of Baaquba city, while non-governmental forces that cooperate with security forces raided an al-Qaeda safe house in al-Soda'a village, 7 km south of Bohroz suburb, and seized torture tools and ammunitions.

Also in Diala, police command released 52 detainees, as no accusations were proved against any of them.
In Kirkuk, the Drug Fighting Department arrested on Tuesday a group of four people, with Iranian made hallucinogenic pills in their possession.

A roadside bomb exploded near Kirkuk Oil Storage, without causing any casualties.
Iraqi Army forces seized a weapons cache at a village in al-Riyadh suburb, 60 km southeast of Kirkuk.
A security source in Kirkuk said, "Iraqi-MNF combined force arrested on Wednesday five suspects, with one wanted among them, in a raid operation at al-Khanjar village of al-Rashad suburb, 30 km southwest of Kirkuk, and seized weapons and leaflets of armed groups."

On the same day, security forces found two unknown corpses on the highway that links Arafa area to Raheem Awa, east of Kirkuk city.

The two bodies were blindfolded, handcuffed, with signs of gunshots wounds.
An Iraqi army source said that a combined Iraqi-U.S. force arrested on Wednesday five gunmen affiliated with the so-called Islamic State of Iraq, in Makhmor suburb, southwest of Arbil city.
