Members of US Congress Made $196 Million as a Result of the US War in Iraq amsi.org, INA, Al-Khaleej, April 5, 2008 A research study conducted and publish by the US Center for Political Response revealed that members of US Congress made about $196 million, including $126 million from investments and companies contracting with the Department of Defense. The Center pointed that the five-year US war in Iraq benefited members of Congress, even if the investments were not military related, as large corporations like Pepsi, IBM, Microsoft, and other multi-national corporations did well. The study found that 151 members of Congress had investments in defense-related companies. It also found that Democrats had invested six times more in military companies than did their Republican counterparts. With regard to the current presidential candidates, the study revealed that neither Obama nor McCain have such investments. However, Hillary Clinton has such investments in several companies.
