Ongoing Deterioration of Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza Strip With World Deafening Silence

Hamas: The world is responsible for the results of ignoring Gaza tragedy

[ 03/04/2008 - 01:02 PM ]
GAZA, (PIC)--

The Hamas Movement warned Thursday that the continuing disregard for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza on the part of the Arab countries and the international community has serious repercussions and the world has to assume its responsibility towards what will happen as a result of this disregard.
In a press statement received by the PIC, Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman, underlined that the Arabs' successive failures in taking brave decisions to end the siege on Gaza are the result of the American pressures exercised on them.

"We warn of continuing to exercise this unjust policy against our people and the results of this serious pressure on a million and a half million Palestinians in Gaza should be read by all; it is unreasonable that the world keeps watching our people being slaughtered and dying this way," Barhoum said.
The spokesman called on international and regional human rights organizations to send their delegations to Gaza to familiarize them with the reality of this tragic situation.
The spokesman appealed to Egypt to allow international humanitarian delegations and sympathizers into Gaza in order support its besieged people and alleviate part of their suffering.

PCAS accuses Israel of committing war crimes against Gaza patients

Thursday April 03, 2008 21:28 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC

The Popular Committee Against Siege (PCAS) issued a statement of Thursday accusing Israel of committing  war crimes against the patients of the Gaza Strip as those patients need medical treatment outside the Gaza Strip but are barred from leaving it.

The PCAS stated that a total of 122 patients, including children, died in Gaza Strip hospital due to the ongoing siege which emptied the hospitals from the needed medications, medical supplies and equipment.

The patients were referred to hospitals outside the Gaza Strip but were barred from leaving the area by the Israeli Authorities.

The PCAS stated that on Thursday patient Jamal Al-Halabi, 30, died of skin cancer after he was barred from leaving the Gaza Strip for medical treatment.

Spokesperson of the PCAS, Rami Abdo, stated that the family of Al Halabi said that it repeatedly attempted to obtain a permit for their son to leave Gaza but their efforts ended in failure.

Abdo added that the rising number of deaths among the patients in Gaza is mainly attributed to the Israeli siege and Israel’s refusal to allow the patients to leave the coastal region for medical treatment.
Since January 2008, Israel rejected 20 – 30% of the applications for medical treatment outside the Gaza Strip, many of the patients are women and children.

In February Israel rejected applications for 67 patients, while 411 students out of 968, who study in neighboring Arab universities have been barred from leaving the Gaza Strip after they entered it to visit their families.

Abdo called on the international human rights groups and the World Health Organization to intervene and uncover the Israeli violations.

Barghuthi warns of the deterioration of the Human situation in the Gaza Strip

Thursday April 03, 2008 16:14 by Ameen Abu Wardeh - IMEMC News

Dr Mustafa al Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI), warned on Thursday of the dangers of the ongoing deterioration of the human situation in the Gaza Strip.

Barghouthi stated that he is astonished by the international silence towards the Israeli violations and the siege which is depriving the residents from their basic needs including the essential medical treatment, medicine and food supplies.

The statements of Barghouthi came during a press conference in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
He stated that 120 Palestinian patients died in the Gaza Strip after Israel barred them from leaving the coastal region for medical treatment. Dozens of patients are currently in serious conditions and are still waiting to be allowed to leave the Gaza Strip for medical treatment.

Dr. Barghouthi also stated that Israel is taking advantage of the unrest in the Palestinian internal situation to separate the West Bank from the Gaza Strip by starving the Palestinians and imposing facts on the ground through settlement Wall.

He called on all Palestinian factions to be alert and realize the dangers of the ongoing internal tension, and to start focusing on the interests of the Palestinian people facing ongoing Israeli violations and attacks.

He concluded his statement by voicing a call to all Palestinian factions to restore national unity among them and among all Palestinians.
