31 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, 50 Bodies Uncovered in Ba'aqouba Mass Grave, According to April 27, 2008 News Reports

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.


Yaqen.net reported today that 8 Iraqis were killed, 44 were injured as a result of fighting between US forces and Mahdi Army militiamen in Sadr City at night until Sunday dawn.

Amsi.org reported that a car bomb exploded near the Mullah Huwaish Mosque. No casualties have been reported yet.

Casualties from Sunday's car bomb attack in eastern Baghdad rose to three deaths and 14 wounded, including seven policemen, an Iraqi police source said. "A roadside car bomb went off near a police patrol that was passing close to the al-Sha'ab playground, eastern Baghdad, killing three policemen and injuring 14 others," a security source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). Earlier, a security source said the blast left one policeman killed and three others wounded. AE/SR

Shells land in Baghdad's Green Zone

    Baghdad, Apr 27, (VOI) –

At least 10 shells landed into central Baghdad's heavily-fortified Green Zone, helped by a sandstorm in the Iraqi capital on Sunday, an official police source said. "The sandstorm brought a no-fly ban, which helped the gunmen fire shells on the U.S.-protected area," the source, who preferred not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"No information is available on losses or casualties," the source said. The Green Zone is home to the Iraqi government headquarters and ministries as well as foreign embassies including the U.S. and British embassies. AE/SR

Woman killed, 4 civilians wounded in Samarra blast

    Salah al-Din, Apr 27, (VOI) –

One woman was killed and four civilians wounded on Sunday when a roadside car bomb ripped through a residential section in eastern Samarra city, Salah al-Din province, police said.

"The explosive vehicle, which was parked in a street of al-Qadissiya neighborhood, eastern Samarra, detonated by means of remote control, killing a woman and wounding four civilians," a security source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on customary condition of anonymity.

Samarra lies 120 km north of Baghdad, while Salah al-Din province lies 175 km north of the Iraqi capital. AE/SR

2 civilians killed, 1 wounded in attacks in Mosul

Ninewa, Apr 27, (VOI) –

Two civilians were killed and another wounded in two separate attacks in the city of Mosul on Sunday, an official source in the Iraqi army said.

"Clashes between Iraqi security forces and unidentified gunmen in al-Islah neighborhood, eastern Mosul, on Sunday left one civilian killed and another wounded," the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

In the western Mosul area of Souk al-Ma'ash, unidentified gunmen opened fire today on a civilian man, killing him instantly and then escaping to an unknown place. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 402 km north of Baghdad.

A policeman and army soldier were killed and nine others wounded in a twin blast that ripped through eastern and western Baghdad on Sunday, police said.

"A roadside car bomb went off near a police patrol that was passing close to the al-Sha'ab playground, eastern Baghdad, killing one policeman and injuring three others," a security source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

In al-Mansour area, western Baghdad, the source said, two improvised explosive devices went off near an Iraqi army patrol, killing one soldier and wounding six others, including four military personnel. AE

Mass grave with 50 bodies found in Diala

Diala, Apr 27, (VOI) –

A mass grave with 50 unidentified bodies was found in the district of Ba'aqouba on Sunday, an official security source said.

"Iraqi army soldiers, in association with the (US-recruited) Sahwa (Awakening) tribal fighters, uncovered a mass grave inside an orchard in the village of al-Kabba, Ba'aqouba, with 50 bodies, mostly decomposed and hard to identify," the source, who asked for anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

13 killed, 29 wounded in Iraq violence until Sunday noon   Baghdad - Voices of Iraq

Thirteen people were killed and 29 others wounded while security forces captured 15 people in acts of violence in different areas of Iraq, particularly in Mosul, since 9:00 p.m. on Saturday until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, security sources said.

"Four civilians were wounded in two separate improvised explosive device (IED) blasts in Mosul, while Iraqi police defused two others in the eastern part of the city," Brig. Khaled Abdul-Sattar, the official spokesman for the Ninewa operations command, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

In other statements, Abdul-Sattar said that two civilians were wounded when unidentified gunmen attacked a checkpoint in southeastern Mosul. An official source in the Iraqi army said that two civilians were killed and another wounded in two separate attacks in Mosul.

Another security source in Mosul said that four policemen were killed and three others injured when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive vehicle near an Iraqi police patrol in the eastern part of the city.

In Baghdad, police sources said two Iraqi army and police personnel were killed and nine others injured when a twin suicide bombing occurred in eastern and western Baghdad on Sunday.

Another police source said at least one man was killed and four others wounded when armed clashes broke out during an early hour of Sunday morning between gunmen believed to belong to the Mahdi Army militias, the armed wing of Shi'i leader Muqtada al-Sadr's movement, and U.S. forces in the western Baghdad suburb of al-Bayya'a.

In Kirkuk, a city that lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a security source said an Iraqi soldier was killed by unidentified gunmen fire near the district of Touz Khormato, southwest of Kirkuk.

In the province of Diala, 57 km north of Baghdad, an official security source said gunmen killed a local leader of a residential section in the southern part of the city, while three anti-Qaeda Popular Committees fighters were wounded by an explosive charge attack in two separate incidents on Saturday.

Also in Diala, a security source said an officer was killed and three others wounded when their vehicle overturned after they come under gunmen fire. Two people were killed in two separate road accidents north of Diala on Saturday. In the port city of Basra, 590 km south of Baghdad, the province's police media office said policemen captured seven suspected gunmen, seized arms and defused 19 IEDs ready to explode in different areas of Basra on Saturday.

In the holy Shi'i city of Karbala, 130 km south of Baghdad, the province's police and operations chief, Maj. General Raed Shakir Jawdat, said four people wanted by security agencies were captured in a vehicle with shells and explosive charges in the northern part of the city on Saturday.

In Dhi-Qar province, southern Iraq, a media spokesman for the city's police, Maj. Nasser al-Majidi, said that a security force managed to free a kidnapped civilian man in the district of al-Shatra, northern Dhi-Qar, and arrest his four kidnappers.

Al-Qa‘idah car bomb targets check point in western Baghdad, killing “Awakening” policeman.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 6:48pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (2:48pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a car bomber blew up an explosives-laden vehicle at a checkpoint manned by tribal “Awakening” police in the al-‘Amiriyah neighborhood of western Baghdad.

 

Xinhua reported a source in the Iraqi police as saying that the attack took place on al-‘Amal ash-Sha‘bi Street at 1pm local time Saturday.

 

In an Arabic dispatch posted at 8:26pm Saturday evening Beijing time (4:26pm in Baghdad), Xinhua reported that two “Awakening” policemen were killed in the attack and eight more were wounded.  Among the injured is an official known as Abu al-‘Abd who is in charge of the “Awakening” police in al-‘Amiriyah.

 

Several nearby buildings and private cars were damaged in the attack.  The source said that ambulances rushed to the scene to take victims to hospital and the casualty toll was likely to rise.

 

Xinhua noted that Abu ‘Umar al-Baghdadi, the Amir of the al-Qa ‘idah front organization known as the “Islamic State of Iraq” had launched a campaign against the US-recruited “Awakening” police whose aim is to combat al-Qa‘idah and which has succeeded in driving al-Qa‘idah out of most Sunni cities in the country. Abu ‘Umar al-Baghdadi has called on each and every one of his fighters to kill at least one “Awakening” policeman and a US soldier, according to a video published on the Internet.

 

Bomb targets Iraqi army patrol in northern Baghdad.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb went off by an Iraqi army patrol at the as-Salikh intersection in northern Baghdad, sparking a gun battle with armed men.

 

Gunmen in car open fire on al-Wathiq square wounding five.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men in a black Toyota Corolla opened fire indiscriminately on al-Wathiq Square in Baghdad, wounding three traffic officers and two civilians.

Bomb targets police patrol in Tikrit Friday night.

 

In a dispatch posted at 9:55am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a homemade bomb planted by the side of a road blew up by a patrol of Iraqi government police in the al-Arba‘in neighborhood of Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, at about 10:30pm local time Friday night.

Bomb kills three soldiers in al-Wajihiyah.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by an Iraqi army patrol in the al-Wajihiyah area near al-Miqdadiyah, 85km north of Baghdad.

Bomb wounds two civilians in Ba‘qubah.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that a bomb exploded in front of a house in the al-Hayy area of central Ba‘qubah.

 

Ash-Shaykh Sa‘id.

 

Police lieutenant killed in ambush in ash-Shaykh Sa‘id.

 

In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 5:51pm Saturday afternoon Beijing time (1:51pm in Baghdad), the Xinhua News Agency reported that armed men attacked a police patrol in the ash-Shaykh Sa‘id, 80km northeast of Baghdad.

Bomb wounds two policemen in Kirkuk Saturday.

 

In a dispatch posted at 6:55pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a patrol of the Iraqi government police in the city of Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad on Saturday.

 

Ninwa Province.

Al-Mawsil.

 

Four policemen killed in bomb attack east of al-Mawsil Saturday.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:26pm Baghdad time Saturday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomb exploded by a police patrol crossing the Fifth Bridge to the east of al-Mawsil on Saturday.  Yaqen reported that the blast killed four policemen and wounded three more of them.

 

Car bomb wounds five in al-Mawsil.

 

In a dispatch posted at 5pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that an explosives-packed car that had been parked by the side of a road was detonated by remote control in the ad-Dandan area of central al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad.

 

Yaqen reported a source in the al-Mawsil police as saying that the blast damaged houses in the area and wounded five people.  Ambulances then arrived on the scene to take victims to al-Mawsil General Hosptial.

 

Two government policemen killed in attack on checkpoint Friday, US reports.

 

In a dispatch posted at 10:55am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men attacked a checkpoint manned by Iraqi government police in Ninwa Province on Friday.

 

Yaqen reported a US military statement as saying that two government policemen were killed by light arms fire in the attack.
