34 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, According to April 2, 2008 News Reports Yaqen.net reported the following news today: - A police officer was killed in an attack in Kirkuk. - 2 bodies of Iraqis executed by death squads were found in Baghdad today. - A UN report mentioned that there are 2.8 million Iraqi refugees inside Iraq. - Two policemen and a civilian were killed west of Mosul. The Iraq News Agency (INA) reported that eight US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed north of Baghdad. Unknown gunmen kill 2 border guards, civilian in Ninewa Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 02 /04 /2008 Time 10:06:03 Ninewa, Apr 2, (VOI) - Three individuals, including two policemen. were killed on Wednesday when unknown gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in Ninewa, north Iraq, a police source said. "Unknown gunmen opened fire on three individuals on the main road linking al-Qayrawan district and military airport three located in Baaj district, west Mosul," a Ninewa police source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). The source pointed out "two of the killed were identified as border guards, while the third was a high-school student visiting his relative in the district." The police source added "the gunmen opened fire on the three victims while they were returning to their homes and set their vehicle ablaze." "The first explosive device detonated on Wednesday morning, in al-Talbiya neighborhood," the police source said to Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). He added, "Two people were killed, and 14 others were wounded in al-Talbiya attack." The source pointed out "another explosive device detonated in al-Mashtal neighborhood on Wednesday noon." "Four people were wounded in al-Mashtal attack," the source explained. Both al-Talbiya and al-Mashtal neighborhoods are in the eastern part of Baghdad, and lie at the edge of Sadr city, the Sadrist stronghold Baghdadi neighborhood. "A car rigged with explosives went off targeting a police vehicle patrol in al-Quds neighborhood in eastern Mosul, killing a passing woman and injuring four policemen," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad. SH Eight killed, kidnapped in Dalouiya Salah al-Din - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 02 /04 /2008 Time 10:06:03 Tikrit, Apr 2, (VOI)- Four persons were killed and four others, including a chieftain and his son, were kidnapped by gunmen in east of Dalouiya, a police source said. "Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen set up a fake checkpoint in a region in east of Dalouiya," Colonel Mohammed Jasem told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The gunmen killed four persons and kidnapped four others along with their civilian vehicle," he explained. "The kidnapped, all civilians, including the chief of al-Janabiyeen tribe in al-Darawesh region, east of Dalouiya, and his son," Jasem added. He did not add more details. Dalouiya, Salah el-Din, is 90 km north of Baghdad. 10 cops killed, 5 injured in two blasts in Diala Diala - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 02 /04 /2008 Time 10:06:03 Ba'aqouba, Apr 2, (VOI)- At least ten policemen were killed and five others were wounded in two separate explosions in Diala, a police source said on Wednesday. "A roadside bomb went off targeting a police vehicle patrol in Muqdadiya district, northeast of Ba'aqouba, killing eight and injuring two policemen," the source, who asked to be unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI). He did not provide further details. Meanwhile, the same source said that another bomb exploded targeting a civilian vehicle with five cops on board, killing two and injuring three. Baaquba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km north of Baghdad. SH Civilian killed as anti-Qaeda leader attacked near Kirkuk Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 02 /04 /2008 Time 10:06:03 Kirkuk, Apr 2, (VOI)- A civilian was killed as a suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to his body near an anti-Qaeda (Sahwa) leader near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, a police source said on Wednesday. “A suicide attacker blew himself up, Tuesday evening, targeting Khalaf Ibrahim, a local (US-recruited) Sahwa leader, in Hawija district,” the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI). The source added that Ibrahim’s escorts suspected and fired at the attacker before he could blow up himself, killing a civilian. “The local leader survived the attack unharmed,” he added. Sahwa councils are government-backed tribal forces initiated in the Sunni areas to fight Qaeda Organization. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad. SK
