78 Iraqis, US Soldier Killed in War Attacks, Including 40 Killed in Samarra Bombing, According to April 15, 2008 News Reports Editor's Note: Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following is a summary of what the Iraqi news agency, Voices of Iraq (VOI), publishes daily. Readers also may find few headlines of attacks reported by few independent news agencies. What's certain is that the number of Iraqis killed everyday exceeds what's reported. Iraq News Agency (INA) reported that a car bomb explosion near the courthouse and the government building in Samarra resulted in killing forty Iraqis and injuring about seventy more people. Another car bomb in Al-Ramadi resulted in killing 13 policemen and injuring 14 more. Attacks kill civilian, wound Iraqi serviceman in Ninewa Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 15 /04 /2008 Time 9:40:21 Ninewa, Apr 15, (VOI) - Two separate attacks killed a civilian and wounded a U.S. army serviceman in Mosul on Tuesday, a Ninewa security spokesman said. "A civilian was killed when gunmen opened fire on him near his house in al-Zahraa neighborhood, east Mosul," Brig. Khalid Abdel Sattar, spokesman for Ninewa operations command, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). The spokesman noted "the deceased was an operator for a private electricity generator." Iraq suffers from dire shortages of electricity, residents of neighborhoods across Iraqi cities resort to private electricity generators to substitute the long hours of power cuts. Elsewhere in Mosul, the same source said "a roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol in al-Rifai neighborhood, west Mosul, left one of the patrol servicemen wounded". The spokesman did not provide further details about the incident. Mosul, branded by U.S. and Iraq officials as the last bastion for al-Qaeda in Iraq, has seen spates of attacks and kidnapping operations. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north Baghdad. AM/SR 3 people killed, 16 wounded near Mosul University Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 15 /04 /2008 Time 9:40:21 Ninewa, Apr. 15, (VOI) – Three people were killed, and 16 others were wounded according to the final casualties' statistics caused by the dual car bomb attack that took place on Tuesday, before Mosul University's building, said a security source from Ninewa police. "Three people were killed, including one policeman, and 16 others were wounded, including three policemen in the final casualties' statistics f the dual car bomb attack on Tuesday," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on condition of anonymity. “One of the two cars was driven by a suicide bomber," he added. Earlier on Tuesday, a suicide attacker detonated a car rigged with explosives, targeting a U.S. vehicle, in front of Mosul University at al-Majmo'a neighborhood, northern Mosul, then a bobby-trapped car that was parked nearby, exploded targeting a police patrol that came to the area after the first explosion. The preliminary casualties' statistics showed that 19 people were wounded, including four policemen. Mosul, capital city of Ninawa province, is 405 km north Baghdad. MH/SR U.S. soldier killed by bomb explosion in Baghdad Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 15 /04 /2008 Time 9:40:21 Baghdad, Apr 15, (VOI) - One U.S. soldier was killed when an improvised explosive device went off targeting his vehicle patrol in northeastern Baghdad, the U.S. army said on Tuesday. “A Multi-National Division – Baghdad soldier was killed from wounds sustained when an improvised-explosive device struck the vehicle the Soldier was riding in while conducting a combat patrol in northeastern Baghdad at approximately 4:45 pm on April 14,” the army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). “The soldier was quickly transported by air to the combat army support hospital where he later died of his wounds,” it added. The death brings the number of the U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,036 according to statistics released by the U.S. army. Of this number, 24 U.S. soldiers have been so far killed in April 2008. SH/SR U.S. Hummer destroyed in Diwaniya
A U.S. Hummer vehicle was destroyed on Tuesday by an improvised explosive device (IED) while it was heading towards the central part of the city," a security source said. "An IED went off near a U.S. army patrol in al-Dhubbat neighborhood, central Diwaniya, severely damaging a Hummer vehicle," the source, who asked for anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). "U.S. soldiers cordoned off the scene while
helicopters were flying overhead," the source said, not giving more
details. VOI tried to contact the U.S. side to no avail. Female student
killed, 4 policemen wounded in Mosul One female student was killed in a gun shooting
while at her school in Mosul, while four policemen were wounded in a
roadside bomb attack in the city, a source from Ninewa police said on
Tuesday. He added that a random bullet from an unknown
source penetrated a classroom's window, hitting the student in hear
head, who died instantly. He asserted that a police officer was among the
injuries. 3 killed, 13
wounded in Sadr City clashes Three civilians were killed and 13 others
wounded in armed clashes that erupted on Monday night in Sadr City,
eastern Baghdad, between joint Iraqi-U.S. forces and gunmen, police said
on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a media source in Shi'i leader
Muqtada al-Sadr's office in Baghdad al-Rasafa area said an unidentified
number of civilians were killed or wounded after a U.S. helicopter
opened fire at several neighborhoods within Sadr City. 5 policemen
killed, 4 wounded in suicide blast in Ramadi Five policemen were killed and four others
wounded when a suicide bomber attacked a police checkpoint in northern
Ramadi city on Tuesday, a security source said. "The initial count of casualties is five deaths
and four wounded," he said, adding "ambulances rushed the injured to the
Ramadi public hospital while policemen imposed intensive reinforcements
around the scene." 4 gunmen killed,
1 wounded in air attack in Basra Four gunmen were killed and another wounded in
an air attack in western Basra city on Tuesday, the Multi-National Force
(MNF) in southern Iraq said. British soldiers were stationed in one base -
the Basra International Airport - after handing over the former
presidential palaces, which they took as a military base, to the Iraqi
forces. Britain was the United States' prime ally in the
March 2003 invasion of Iraq. Earlier on Tuesday, a police source said one
civilian man was killed and two others wounded by gunmen fire in central
Basra, 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. 6 civilians
slain by gunmen in eastern Mosul Unidentified gunmen killed a female lawyer and her sister while stepping out of their home in eastern Mosul, where another armed group killed a man and three women of the same family, on Tuesday, a security official said. "Unidentified gunmen opened their machine-gun fire at a woman lawyer and her sister while getting out of their home in al-Tameem neighborhood, killing them instantly," Brig. Khaled Abdul-Sattar, the spokesman for the Ninewa security operations command, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI). Meanwhile, another source in the Ninewa province
police said that an armed group "stormed a house at a late hour last
night in the al-Karama apartment compound in al-Khadraa neighborhood,
eastern Mosul, killing a family of one man and three women without
apparent reasons." Civilian
killed, 2 wounded by gunmen fire in Basra One civilian man was killed and two others
wounded by gunmen fire in central Basra on Tuesday, a police source
said. The source did not reveal more information about
the incident or the identity of the people attacked. Saulat al-Forsan, which started during the last week of March, was announced by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki with the aim of tracking down "outlaws" in the oil-rich port city of Basra. Clashes erupted between government forces and armed groups believed to belong to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army militias. AE 55 killed, 74
wounded in Iraq during 24 past hours Security sources said that 55 people were
killed, and 74 others were wounded, while security forces arrested 34
suspects in the violent acts that took place throughout Iraq over the
last 24 hours. “The blast caused damage to 11 cars parked near
the area of the explosion,” he added. A Diala security source also noted “police
forces discovered a a corpse of a leading figure of al-Qaeda network in
Iraq dumped inside Baldruz district, south-east Baaquba.” He added “the dead was wanted by the judicial
authorities for involvement in crimes of killing and forcible
relocations of great number of people in Diala.” In Salah al-Din, the U.S. army said one of its servicemen was “killed by an IED explosion placed in Salah al-Din, north of Baghdad.” The killing put the death toll for the U.S. army in Iraq at 4035 since the start of military operation in March of 2003. In Mosul, Brig. Khalid Abdel Sattar, spokesman
for Ninewa operations command, said “ a female lawyer and her sister
were killed in al-Tameem neighborhood, east Mosul.” In Kirkuk, a security source said “four wanted
fighters of Thourat al-Eshreen (1920 uprising) willingly
surrendered to security authorities.” In the same city, a police source said
“U.S.-Iraqi forces arrested 21 individuals, including six wanted people
and 15 suspects during a search operation in Yayaji town villages, 20
south-west Kirkuk.” Al-Nakshabandiya is an armed group composed of
former Iraqi soldiers and ranks paying allegiance to Saddam’s vice Izzat
