59 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 36 Executed by Death Squads, According to April 11, 2008 News Reports Editor's Note: Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following is a summary of what the government news agency, VOI, publishes daily. Readers also may find few headlines of attacks reported by few independent news agencies. What's certain is that the number of Iraqis killed everyday exceeds what's reported. Yaqen.net reported today that 3 people were killed, 7 were injured by a rocket attack on Palestine Hotel in Baghdad. The Iraq News Agnecy (INA) reported that two US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed, seven were injured in a suicide car attack, north of Beiji. Amsi.org reported that US air strikes killed six Iraqis in Basra and six more in Sadr City today. Iraqi army kills 4 gunmen in Ninewa Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Four gunmen were killed and five others wounded in clashes with Iraqi army forces in Mosul on Friday, A Ninewa security spokesman said. "Iraqi army forces clashed with gunmen bilieved to be al-Qaeda network fighters in Al-Baaj district, 130 Kmwestern Mosul,killing four fighters and wounding fiver others", Brig. Khalid Abdel Sattar, spokesman for Ninewa security operations, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI). The spokesman noted "three Iraqi army servicemen
were variablly woundes in the clashes". 6 gunmen killed in MNF airstrike Basra - Voices of Iraq A number of gunmen, believed to be six, were
killed on Friday morning in an airstrike by a Multi-National Force (MNF)
warplane in western Basra, the media spokesman for the MNF in southern
Iraq said. The British forces had announced last week that
they supported the Iraqi forces during military operations in Basra
against Shi'i Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s al-Mahdi army fighters. Britain was the United States' prime ally in the
March 2003 invasion of Iraq. 4 killed, 19 wounded in acts of violence over 24 hours Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Four persons were killed, 19 wounded and 33 bodies were found in acts of violence that took place at different places of Iraq during the last 24 hours, security sources said. in Najaf, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) over the phone
that Riadh al-Nouri, one of
the key assistants of Sayyed Muqtada al-Sadr, was shot in front of his
home in al-Furat neighborhood, northern Najaf, while returning from the
Friday prayers. Ahmed Deibal, the official spokesman for the civil administration in Najaf, 180 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, said a curfew was imposed as of Friday afternoon until further notice over the slain leading Sadrist bloc member. "Najaf will be under an indefinite curfew as of
Friday afternoon for security reasons," Deibal told VOI. A security source said gunmen opened fire against a civilian while driving his private car in al-Zeraai neighborhood, killing him instantly. The official spokesman for the Ninewa operations command, Brigadier Khaled Abdul Sattar, said “unknown gunmen opened fire against two civilians near a fuel station in west of Mosul, killing one and injuring the other.” Meanwhile, the spokesman noted "a roadside bomb went off in al-Islah al-Zirai district, west Mosul, wounding a passing woman". He also said at least 11 civilians were wounded on Thursday in an attack with mortar rounds in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. "On Thursday's afternoon, eight mortar shells hit al-Simood neighborhood, near 'Dorat Baghdad,' southern Mosul, wounding 11 civilians," Brigadier Khaled Abdel-Sattar told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI). Five civilians were wounded in a shootout followed by a bomb explosion,” he added. In Diwaniya, Ismail Kadhim, Afak mayor, said
police forces of Afak town, 30 km west Diwaniya, uncovered a cache of
weapons containing 26 improvised explosive devices(IED), a 27-Km range
rocket and a Chlor bottle used by gunmen in explosion attacks. 289 killed, 1448 injured in two weeks in Sadr City – medic Baghdad - Voices of Iraq More than 289 persons have been killed and 1448
others wounded since the beginning of armed clashes in Sadr City on
March 25, an official source in the health ministry said on Friday. Baghdad and a number of southern provinces have
witnessed armed confrontations between security forces and Shi'i Cleric
Muqtada al-Sadr’s Mahdi army fighters on March 25, hours after Prime
Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced the launch of Operation Saulet al-Foursan
(Knights' Assault), which aims at eliminating armed groups in Basra.
