3 US Soldier, 19 Iraqis Killed, According to April 10, 2008 News Report


Editor's Note:

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following is a summary of what the government news agency, VOI, daily. Readers also may find few headlines of attacks reported by few independent news agencies. What's certain is that the number of Iraqis killed everyday exceeds what's reported.

Yaqen.net reported the following news today:

- Basra governor, Muhammed Musabah, was accused by Maliki that he smuggles oil from Basra fields. His brother Ismail fired back at Maliki and his oil minister, Shahrastani, that they received $25 from Iran in return for enabling Iranian revolutionary guards to enter southern Iraq, particularly Majnoon oil fields.

- 6 Iraqis were killed, including two children, were killed, ten were injured in US air strikes on Sadr City.

- A US Hummer was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Al-Khalidiya, between Fallouja and Ramadi.

2 U.S. soldiers killed in Baghdad, Salah el-Din

Two U.S. soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in Baghdad and Salah el-Din, the U.S. army said on Thursday.

“A Multi-National Division – North Soldier was killed in an improvised explosive device attack in Salah ad Din Province, April 9,” the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

“A Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device attack at approximately 2 p.m. in northeastern Baghdad,” the army said in another statement.

The deaths bring to 4030 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the beginning of military operations in March 2003. 18 U.S. soldiers have so far been killed in April.

IED kills U.S. soldier in central Baghdad

The U.S. army said on Thursday that one U.S. soldier was killed by a bomb blast in central Baghdad on Wednesday.

“A Coalition force soldier was killed when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle during convoy operations in central Baghdad on April 9,” the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

The death brings to 4032 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the beginning of military operations in March 2003. 20 U.S. soldiers have so far been killed in April.

Two attacks leave 3 casualties in Ninewa

Ninewa, April10, (VOI)-

A civilian was killed and two others wounded in two separate attacks in the northern city of Mosul on Thursday, a Ninewa police spokesman said.

"Unknown gunmen opened fire on two civilians near a petrol station located on the main road of Badosh district, western Mosul,leaving one  killed and the second wounded", Brig, Khalid Abdel Sattar,  spokesman for Ninewa police, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI).

Meanwhile, the spokesman noted "a roadside bomb went off in al-Islah al-Zirai district, west Mosul, leaving one woman , passing by the incident site, wounded".
The source did not provide further details

Four family members killed, injured in Huwaiyja

Kirkuk, Apr 10, (VOI) - Two individuals were killed and two others wounded, all members of the same family, on Thursday in an armed attack on their house in central al-Huwaiyja district, while 12 wanted men were arrested in a crackdown operation in southwest Kirkuk, a security source said.
“An armed group wearing the Iraqi army uniform stormed a house in al-Askari neighborhood in central al-Huwaiyja, southwest of Kirkuk, killing a man and his wife and injuring their children,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on condition of anonymity.

“The armed group fled to an unknown place after the attack,” he said, adding no more details.
Meanwhile, Kirkuk districts police chief said “a joint force of police and U.S. troops arrested 12 wanted and suspected gunmen during a crackdown operation in Khashka village in al-Rashad district, southwest of Kirkuk.
“Amounts of weapons were also confiscated during the operation,” Sarhad Qader said.
Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

11 people killed, 23 others wounded throughout Iraq in 24 hours

11 people were killed, including U.S. soldiers, and 20 others were wounded, while security forces arrested 21 suspects in the violent acts that took place at different places of Iraq during the last 24 hours, security sources said.  

In Baghdad, the U.S. army in Iraq announced on Thursday that one of its soldiers was killed when a roadside bomb exploded targeting his vehicle in Baghdad on Wednesday, raising the death toll of the U.S. militaries in Iraq to 4,032 since the beginning of operations on Mar. 2003.
On Wednesday, the U.S. army announced that two of its soldiers were killed in two separate attacks in Baghdad and Salah Eddin province.

The U.S. army announced the death of a third American soldiers on Wednesday, who was killed in a roadside bomb attack, east of Baghdad.

On Thursday, a security source in Baghdad said "A roadside bomb exploded targeting a police patrol at the highway near al-Sha'ab stadium, wounding four of the patrol's elements."
Baghdad Operations Command decided to lift the curfew imposed on Sadr city since Mar. 31 on Saturday 6 am.

In al-Anbar province, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MOI) said on Thursday that Iraqi security forces arrested Abu-Ayob al-Massri's aid, Nazal Sabar Abdullah al-Jeghaifi, the so-called 'Abu al-Jerah,' who occupies the position of 'Ameer' in Qaida Organization in al-Anbar province.
Abu-Ayob al-Massri succeeded Abu-Mosa'b al-Zarqawi in commanding Qaida Organization in Iraq, after the last was killed in a U.S. airstrike on the spring of 2006.

In Mosul, a security source from Nainawa police said "A car bomb exploded on Wednesday's evening, targeting a police patrol at al-Sa'a neighborhood, center of Mosul city, killing one civilian and one policeman, and wounding ten other civilians."
On Wednesday, a car bomb detonated at al-Muthana neighborhood, east of Mosul, without causing any casualties.

Three firemen were wounded in Mosul when they were trying to extinguish a fire that took place at a gasoline station in the city.
In Basra, Abd-Ali Lafta al-Mawsawi, a lawmaker of the Unified Iraqi Coalition (UIC – parliamentary Shiite bloc), told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) that a force of the Iraqi army raided his house, west of the city on Wednesday's evening, wounding two of his guards, and confiscating all the legal weapons that were in the house.

Manager of MOI's operation room denied that he knows any details in this regard.
In Diala, Major General Ghanem al-Qoraishi, commander of Diala police, told VOI "A combined Iraqi-U.S. force conducted a military operation at a number of al-Meqdadiya suburb's neighborhoods, 45 km northeast of Ba'aqouba city, arresting two Qaida senior members, Uday al-Khelani and Bakr al-Khazraji, and they both are wanted for committing crimes of killing and displacing people.

Another security source in Diala said on Wednesday that a woman was killed and two children were wounded when five mortar shells hit a residential house, at the center of Ba'aqouba city.
In Kirkuk, a security source at al-Haweeja suburb said that two members of one family were killed on Thursday, while two others were wounded, when gunmen attacked their house, at the center of the suburb.

Iraqi security forces arrested 12 wanted gunmen and suspects in a raid operation, southwest of the province.
A source at Kirkuk police said on Thursday that security forces arrested two wounded suspects, released an abducted citizen, and killed his kidnapper in two separate operations, southwest the province.
An authorized security source in Kirkuk said on Wednesday "Gunmen, using a modern car, opened fire on a civilian near his house, at Tal-Khzeja village of al-Rashad suburb, 35 km southwest of Kirkuk."
He added "The civilian died immediately."

In Karbala, police commander told VOI "Security forces arrested five suspects and seized an underground weapons cache at a farm, south of the city, due to intelligence tips."
