US Soldier, 46 Iraqis Killed, Including 9 Executed by Death Squads in a September 27, 2007 Report

The Iraq News Agency, INA, reported the following two news items, which were not mentioned by the VOI report of September 27, 2007 below.

- Iraqi fighters destroyed a US Bradley tank in Diala and videotaped it.

- 5 women, 4 children and a man were killed by US forces in Babil yesterday.

Nine unidentified bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad, Sept 27, (VOI)-

Nine unidentified bodies were found in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad during the past 24 hours, the interior ministry said on Thursday. "Police patrols found on Thursday nine unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad, most of them were found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh)," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Six corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: two in al-Hurriyah, two in al-Doura, one in al-Aamel, and one in al-Bayya," he explained. "Three bodies were found in Rasafa, eastern side of Baghdad, one in Ur neighborhood and two in Sadr City" the source also said. "Most of the found bodies bore signs of gunshot wounds in different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SK

Gunman kills policeman in central Mosul

Mosul, Sept 27, (VOI) - 

A policeman was killed on Thursday by an armed man in central Mosul, a police source said. "Khalaf Hussein, a police officer in al-Hadbaa police department, was killed this afternoon in al-Najafi strett region in central Mosul," the director the Ninewa police department's operations room Brigadier Abdul Karim a-Juburi told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "A gunman opened fire on the policeman while walking in the al-Najafi street region wearing his uniform, killing him on the spot and fled to an unknown location," he added. "The region is relatively safe. It is a market for selling books and stationery," the brigadier noted. Mosul, capital city of Ninewa province, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

15 al-Qaeda fighters killed, 10 arrested in Muqdadiya

Diala, Sept 27, (VOI) – 

Fifteen al-Qaeda fighters were killed and ten others were arrested in a military operation by a joint U.S.-Iraqi force in Diala province's district of Muqdadiya, Diala Operations Commander Maj. Gen. Abdul Kareem al-Rubaie said on Thursday. "In cooperation with multinational force personnel, a joint force from the Iraqi army and police launched a massive raid on Muqdadiya's neighborhoods, killing 15 al-Qaeda gunmen and arresting ten others," Maj. Gen. al-Rubaie told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "A large amount of arms and ammunition was seized during the operation," al-Rubaie added. Muqdadiya district is located 45 northeast of Ba'aqouba, the capital city of Diala, 57 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

10 killed, injured in two car bomb explosions in Baghdad

Baghdad, Sept 27, (VOI) – 

One civilian was killed and nine others wounded in two car bombs in the Iraqi capital Baghdad's eastern and northeastern parts, an Iraqi police source said on Thursday.

"A roadside car bomb parked behind a mosque in Baghdad al-Jadida neighborhood went off this morning, killing one civilian and injuring three others," the source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The explosion caused damage to nearby stores and civilian vehicles, the source indicated. "Meanwhile, another roadside car rigged with explosives was detonated in Ur neighborhood in northeastern Baghdad, wounding six civilians and causing damage to adjacent buildings and vehicles," the source added.

Three casualties in Kirkuk attacks

Kirkuk, Sept 27, (VOI) - 

An Iraqi soldier was killed and two civilians wounded on Thursday in two separate attacks near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, a police source said. "Unknown gunmen attacked and killed an Iraqi soldier while he was driving his private car in Hawija district, 70 km southwest of Kirkuk," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The gunmen fled the scene following the attack, while the body was sent to a morgue in the district, he added. Meanwhile, the same source said that unknown gunmen on Thursday morning opened fire on a civilian car on Hawija main road, wounding two civilians onboard. The two wounded civilians were rushed to a nearby hospital, he added. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Iran shells border areas in Arbil

Arbil, Sept 27, (VOI) - 

Iran shelled areas near Arbil's borders with Iran with no reports of casualties, a Kurdish official said on Thursday. "Iranian forces, with artillery, shelled some areas of Haj Omran in Joman district, Arbil," Abdul Wahid Kuani, Joman's district mayor, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Kuani added "three artillery shells fell last night onto a house without casualties, as its occupants had earlier fled the area as a result of the continued shelling." "Four more shells landed in Mahi Khalan village near the borders with no casualties reported," the mayor said. Arbil, capital of Iraq's Kurdistan region, is 349 km northeast of Baghdad. SK/SR

U.S. soldier killed in Baghdad-army

Baghdad, Sept 27, (VOI)- 

A U.S. soldier was killed by small-arms fire in eastern Baghdad, raising the U.S. deaths in Iraq since March 2003 to 3,801, the U.S. army said.

"A Multi-National Division-Baghdad Soldier was killed during a small-arms fire attack while conducting combat operations in an eastern section of the Iraqi capital Sept. 25," the U.S. army said in a statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The statement gave no further details. The death brings to 3,801 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. 74 soldiers have been killed since the beginning of August. 76 servicemen were killed in July. November 2004, which witnessed fierce battles between U.S. forces and armed groups in Falluja city, Anbar province, is still the month that saw the highest U.S. fatalities with 137. April 2004 comes second with 135, followed by May 2007 during which 126 U.S. soldiers were killed.
