Haniyah calls on international community to curb Israeli aggression on Gaza

[ 27/09/2007 - 09:26 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Ismail Haniyah, the premier of the PA caretaker government, has called on the international community and Arab states especially Egypt and Saudi Arabia to curb the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians after the Israeli air raids on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening that left 8 martyrs.

During his meeting with media and press reporters on the occasion of the Palestinian journalist day, Haniyah confirmed that this Israeli blatant aggression came after Israeli war minister Ehud Barak affirmed the imminence of military strikes on Gaza.

Haniyah also called on Arab states not to participate in the autumn conference to be held under American auspices, warning that the conference will be held in order to ensure Arab approval to the American goals that the Bush administration wants to implement during the next period.

Regarding the caretaker government's efforts to heal the internal rift, the premier explained the ongoing efforts exerted by the government to bridge the gap and to contain the crisis in the Palestinian arena, pointing out that the government overcame many obstacles such as the issue of salaries and strikes.

The premier also underlined that the dialogue is the only way to address the current Palestinian crisis, pointing out in this regard that the government made contacts with Palestinian leaders, scholars and notables for the sake of closing different views and putting things together in the right framework.

With regard to the Palestinian-European relationship, the premier affirmed that there are ongoing contacts between the government and the Europeans, pointing out that the Europeans know very well that there are no solutions without Hamas; besides, they are fully aware that the Palestinian people want to realize their hopes, to restore their usurped rights and to build their Palestinian home.

Regarding some Fateh leaders' willingness to return to the Gaza Strip, the premier stated: "We affirm that Gaza is for all and no one can be barred from entering his city, but everybody is obliged to abide by the law, respect the rules of national action, and not to have any perceptions of restoring lawlessness to the Gaza Strip."

At the end of his talk, the premier extended an apology to all journalists and media reporters and their institutions operating in the Gaza Strip for the maltreatment some of them suffered while fulfilling their duties.
