Baghdad, Sept 23, (VOI)- 

Police patrols found on Sunday ten unidentified bodies dumped in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a security source said. "Police patrols found on Saturday ten unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad, most of them were found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh)," a source from the Interior Ministry told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Seven corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: two in al-Shoula, two in al-Aamel, two in al-Mahmoudiyah, and one in al-Bayaa," he explained. "Three more bodies were found in Rasafa, eastern side of Baghdad, one in Ur, two in Sadr City," the source also said. "Most of the found bodies bore signs of gunshot wounds in different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SK

Seven unknown bodies found in Muqdadiyah

Muqdadiyah, Sept 23, (VOI)- 

Muqdadiyah forensic department received on Sunday seven unknown bodies found dumped in Muqdadiyah district, 100 km northeast of Baghdad, a medical source said. "The forensic department in Muqdadiyah hospital received, this afternoon, seven unknown bodies that were found dumped on a main road in Muqdadiyah district," the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The source added "most of the bodies were blind-folded and had shot wounds." Muqdadiyah is a stronghold of Qaeda-linked armed groups. SK

Two car bombs kill, wound 10 in Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Sept 24, (VOI) – 

A car bomb went off near an Iraqi army patrol, killing one soldier and wounding three others, while a local official survived an assassination attempt in another car bomb attack that left four of his guards and two civilians wounded, police said.

"The first explosive vehicle, which was parked on the roadside, went off near an Iraqi patrol in the area of al-Ummal al-Shaabiya in western Kirkuk, killing one soldier and wounding three others," an official security source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The wounded soldiers were rushed to a nearby hospital, the source added. Meanwhile, a source from Kirkuk police told VOI that Abdul-Kareem Nassif, chief of the al-Multaqa district, 35 km southwestern Kirkuk, survived an attempt on his life with a car bomb on Monday morning. "Four of Nassif's guards and two civilians were wounded in the explosive attack, the source said. Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

First British fatality in southern Iraq in September

A British soldier died of wounds sustained in Basra, southern Iraq, on Friday, thus becoming the first British fatality in the month of September, the British defense ministry said.

10 gunmen from al-Qaeda killed, bridge destroyed in Diala

Diala, Sept 24, (VOI) – 

A joint Iraqi-U.S. force killed 10 gunmen belonging to the al-Qaeda Organization in Iraq in the district of al-Muqdadiya during the early hours of Monday and destroyed a bridge used by al-Qaeda members to wage their attacks, a spokesman for Diala operations command said.

"The Iraqi army and police personnel conducted the raid on al-Qaeda with backing from the Multi-National Forces (MNF)," Col. Ragheb Radi al-Umairi told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Eyewitnesses confirmed to VOI the destruction of a bridge used by members of al-Qaeda in the village of al-Hashimiyat, al-Khalis district, Diala, to wage their attacks. Diala is 57 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Truck bomb kills 6, wounds 17 in Talafar

Ninewa, Sept 24, (VOI) – 

In an initial casualty count, six people, including two policemen and one army soldier, were killed and 17 others wounded from truck bomb that went off near a checkpoint in Talafar district on Monday, police said.

"A truck, driven by a suicide bomber on Monday noon, targeted a checkpoint in the village of Abu Maria on the Mosul-Talafar highway, killing six and injuring 17 others," Talafar police chief Brig. Ibrahim al-Juburi told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Talafar is a district in Ninewa province. It lies 60 km west of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, 402 km north of Baghdad.
