Khan Younis – Ma'an –

The Israeli occupation government prohibited Palestinian producer of the film 'The Last Call', Ya'aqoub Abu Ghalwah, from travelling to Italy to watch his film being screened at the Milano Film Festival.

The festival administration and Italian consulate exerted concerted efforts to persuade the Israeli government to allow the producer to travel.

There is intensive competition at the festival between The Last Call and an Israeli film called Tolya.

The Last Call was nominated to compete at the international festival of short films in Italy. Fifty-two films were nomination from 2,000 applications.

The eleven-minute film is about four Palestinians who receive a telephone call from the Israeli intelligence, ordering them to evacuate their home, as it is about to be bombarded by the Israeli forces.

The film shows Palestinian citizens successfully countering the Israeli policy of house demolitions. It also shows the psychological impact of Israeli policies on Palestinians.

Director of the film, twenty-nine-year-old Awad Abu Al-Kheir, said that the film is his first film, but he decided to make the film on request of Abu Ghalwah, who lives in a similar situation.
