Russian Mediation Between Palestinian Factions Hamas and Fateh

Hamas welcomes the Russian role in internal Palestinian talks

Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesperson of Hamas movement, stated on Thursday that Hamas welcomes any role carried by Russia in order to solidify the efforts aimed at resuming internal talks between Hamas and Fateh, and the rest of the Palestinian factions.

Abu Zuhri stated that the Russian vice- Foreign Minister, Alexander Saltanov, during his recent visit to Cairo, said that internal talks between Hamas and Fateh movement are the only means which could overcome the current conflict between the two movements.

Abu Zuhri added that these statements reflects adequate Russian understanding of the situation in Palestine, and prove that more international countries are willing to hold talks with Hamas.

Hamas movement stated that president Mahmoud Abbas, and his movement (Fateh), are still rejecting any talks with Hamas.

At the end of his statement, Abu Zuhri said that Hamas welcomes any Russian role which could create a real unity among the Palestinians adding that there are several international countries that are trying to stop any efforts that aim at unifying the Palestinian people and closing the gap between Fateh and Hamas.
