6 Palestinians killed including 2 children, 23 injured including 9 children during September 6-12, 2007, a PCHR weekly report PCHR weekly report: “6 Palestinian, including 2 children, killed,23 including 9 children injured” Friday September 14, 200705:39 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC saed at imemc dot org The Palestinian Center For Human Rights, based in Gaza, published its weekly report on the Israeli violations in the occupied territories in the period between September 6 and 12, 2007. During the reported period, Israeli troops shot and killed six Palestinians, including two children, and injured 23 including nine children. The PCHR reported that Israeli troops carried 35 invasions in the occupied West Bank and three in the Gaza Strip. During these attacks, 54 Palestinians were kidnapped in the West Bank and six in the Gaza Strip. Israeli violations in the West Bank: On June 9, soldiers invaded the northern West Bank city of Jenin, and opened fire at a group of Palestinian children who hurled stones at the invading forces. The army invaded the city in an attempt to kidnap Palestinian fighters. Two children were injured in the invasion and one of them died of his wounds on September 10. During the reported period, Israeli troops carried at least 35 invasions in several West Bank cities, towns and refugee camps. The attacks included breaking into homes and firing rounds of live ammunition. Soldiers took prisoner 54 residents, including three children, and the wife of a resident who is wanted by the Israeli security. At least three residents were also taken prisoner on roadblocks installed by the army in several West Bank areas. One resident was kidnapped at a military roadblock, near Nablus in the northern part of the West Bank; the army claimed that he carried explosives, and a Palestinian policeman was also arrested at an Israeli roadblock near the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem. On Wednesday morning, the Israeli authorities imposed a strict siege over the occupied territories as Israeli celebrates a Jewish feast. The siege will continue until Sunday September 16. This siege added more hardships to the residents who are already living under severe restrictions of their movement. The Israeli Authorities and the army issued a military order closing the Ibrahimi Mosque, in Hebron, for 5 separate days during the holy Ramadan Month, allegedly to allow Jewish settlers to celebrate Jewish feasts. The mosque will be cloed to Muslims on 13, 19, 22 and 30 September and 1 October 2007 during the holy Muslim Ramadan Month, in order to allow Jewish settlers to celebrate Jewish occasions. Attacks against nonviolent Wall protests: Troops continued their attacks against Palestinian and international peace activists peacefully protesting against the Annexation Wall in the West Bank. The attacks were carried out against peaceful protesters in Um Salmouna village, near Bethlehem, and Bil’in village, near Ramallah. The PCHR reported that on Friday August 31, soldiers attacked Palestinian civilians, Israeli and international peace activists peacefully protesting against the Annexation Wall in Bil’in. soldiers placed barbed-wires and fired tear gas, rubber-coated bullets and round bombs. Soldiers also violently attacked and clubbed several protesters. A 42-yeard old woman was injured when a tear gas canister hit her in the leg, while several protesters suffered from tear gas inhalation. Settler attacks: On Tuesday , September 11, settlers of the illegal Abraham Abino outpost, in the Old City of Hebron, occupied the rooftop of the Al Aqtab mosque, and started building on it to expand their illegal outpost, the army was present in the area and provided protection for the settlers instead of stopping them. Jerusalem: Israeli soldiers and police men broke into the headquarters of the local council of Bir Nibala village, northwest of Jerusalem and confiscated three computers and official documents. Jerusalem remained isolated from the rest of the West Bank and further restrictions were enforced due to celebrations of Jewish feasts. A full siege was imposed over all of the occupied territories, which also includes sealing different Palestinian areas from each other. The siege was imposed on September 12 and will remained in place until September 16. Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip: On Thursday, September 6, soldiers killed three Palestinian members of the resistance after firing a tank shell at a group of fighters in Al Qarara village, northeast of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Three more fighters, and ten residents, were injured. The army initially invaded the area, broke into several houses and transformed them into military bases. Later on, more troops, supporter by army air craft, invaded the area. A fourth fighter was killed during clashes with the invading forces. The PCHR added that 5 family members, including 3 children and a woman, were wounded when the army fired a missile at the apartment building where they live. A total of ten residents were injured. Troops, using military bulldozers, uprooted 66 Dunams of agricultural land. During the invasion, troops detained 150 civilians for several hours, and released them all except for two brothers who were transferred to an unknown destination. On Saturday September 8, soldiers fired a Palestinian children, hunting birds in an area close to the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel; one child was killed. The children were hunting in an open area, and did not carry any firearms. All borders crossings in the Gaza Strip remained closed, thus causing further deterioration of the economic condition of the resident. The siege imposed on the Gaza Strip has severely impacted the flow of food, medical supplies and other necessities such as fuel, construction materials and raw materials for various economic sectors. These represent a major violation of international law, Geneva Conventions, and they obstruct reaching a peaceful resolution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The Israeli occupation forces abduct and kidnap Palestinians from their homes and at checkpoints, on daily basis. Most media refer to these abductions and kidnappings as arrests, which is inaccurate and not true as the Israeli occupation government has no jurisdiction over Palestinian citizens inside their own territories. Further, when Israeli occupation forces kill Palestinian civilians, particularly when the victims are women and children, this should be referred to as an act of terrorism, and perpetrators should be described as terrorists. Since the end of the second intifadha in 2005, not a single Israeli civilian was killed by Palestinian resistance organizations. However, Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israeli occupation forces, almost on daily basis. Note to Journalists: Any journalist who does not describe this as terrorism is biased, unfair, not objective, and a participant in terrorizing the Palestinian people, so the Israeli occupation of Palestine can continue endlessly. Note to Translators: The Arabic definite article, Al (or its variant, El) should be written with a hyphen separating it from the noun it is associated with, for example Al-Aqsa. If a hyphen is not used, as in Al Aqsa, it confuses non-Arabic readers. They may think that it is an abbreviation of the name Albert, as many Americans do. The Arabic definite article Al (or El) should be written as such, whether it is Shamsiyah or Qamariyah in pronunciation, simply because we are dealing with the written form of the language, not the spoken one. Using the Shamsiyah so many forms in writing is inaccurate and confusing to non-Arabic readers, to say the least. Only standard (fasih) pronunciation of Arabic names should be used. Non-standard ('ammi) should be avoided avoided. Example: Names like Abu Sunainah, Abu Rudainah, and Abu Shebak are written by some translators in the non-standard forms of Abu Snainah, Abu Rdainah, and Abu Shbak. The standard pronunciation of the vowel at the end of names is (a), not (e), particularly if it is followed by (h), like in the cases of Haniyah and Rudainah, not Haniyeh and Rudaineh. The standard pronunciation of vowels in the following names is (ai), not (ei) as written by some translators: Hussain, not Hussein and Hassanain, not Hassanein. This is the same long vowel pronounced in the English words "rain" and "brain."
