Dozens of Israeli occupation soldiers were injured early on Tuesday morning as a Palestinian homemade projectile, launched from the Gaza Strip, landed in a military base near the Israeli town of Asqalan (Ashkelon), north of Gaza.

Israeli medical sources reported that more than 70 soldiers sustained injuries, including ten moderate to serious wounds, as the projectile struck the military base of Zikim.

According to Israeli military sources, the projectile landed near sleeping troops, while two others landed in an open area near the base.

Dozens of ambulances rushed to the scene of the incident to evacuate wounded soldiers to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva and Barzeli Hospital in Ashkelon.

The military wing of Islamic Jihad, the Al-Quds Brigades, and Al-Nasser Salahuddin Brigades of the Popular Resistance Committees claimed responsibility for bombarding the military base.

The brigades issued a joint statement announcing that the projectiles were launched at 1.15 am on Tuesday.

"Folly"

The brigades' statement warned the Israeli army against committing any "folly" in the Gaza Strip, representing expectations that Israel will launch a wide-scale military incursion into the area.

The statement declared that the operation is a reprisal for frequent Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Following the attack, there were calls in Israel for retaliation. Israeli Industry, Trade and Labour Minister, Eli Yishai, who is also head of the Shas party, said to Israeli army radio that the expected peace summit in autumn must be cancelled, and that Israel should have acted harshly "long ago".

Other Israeli officials urged for the cessation of fuel and electricity supply to Gaza.

Israeli political analysts expect a fierce Israeli response to the attack in the form of an extensive military operation in the Gaza Strip, or at the least, the enlarging of limited operations already ratified by the Israeli cabinet.

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation government has been deeply shocked at the injury of tens of Israeli occupation soldiers and officers as a result of firing two Palestinian homemade rockets on the Zakkim military base in Ashkelon at an early hour Tuesday considering what happened a very dangerous indicator.

Accordingly, Ehud Olmert, the Israeli premier, on Tuesday called for an urgent meeting with the heads of security apparatuses and members of the mini-cabinet for political and security affairs to examine possible ways to respond to the bombing of the military base.

The Hebrew radio reported that a senior Israeli minister called for an immediate retaliation to the Palestinian missile attack and for carrying out a large-scale operation to eradicate the infrastructure of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, urging the government to restore the control over the Salahuddin road (Philadelphia axis) at the pretext of preventing the flow of weapons from the Egyptian Sinai peninsula to the Strip.

Whereas another Israeli minister urged to stop the delivery of fuel to the Gaza Strip, Israeli minister Meir Shitreet opined that Israel cannot simply fortify buildings of Israeli communities surrounding the Gaza Strip, but it must carry out a large-scale incursion in Gaza.

For his part, Eli Yishai, the Israeli interior minister, said: "There is no room presently to participate in any international peace conference," adding that the time has come for a military operation against Gaza.

For his part, the head of the Likud parliamentary bloc, Gideon Sa'er also said that a large-scale military operation is a must against the Strip to face the growing Hamas magnitude and the escalating rocket attacks.

Several Israeli occupation soldiers were injured and dozens treated for shock in the early hours of Tuesday morning, after the Al-Quds brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, struck the Israeli military training base ‘Zikkim’ with a home-made rocket.

According to Israeli media sources, two home-made shells hit the base, injuring at least 60 soldiers. Among those wounded, four sustained serious injuries. The majority of those injured suffered mild shock.

The Brigades issued a press release claiming responsibility for the attack, stating that the operation represented one part of the organization’s ongoing operations against the occupation, and against Israeli crimes against Palestinians in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The Hamas movement, for their part, hailed the attacks with Fawzi Barhoum describing the operation as “a victory from God for the resistance.”

NAZARETH, (PIC)--

At least 66 Israeli Occupation soldiers were injured on Tuesday when two Palestinian resistance missiles blasted in their army base in Ashkelon city, occupied since 1948, Israeli medical sources reported.

According to Israeli medical sources, more than 20 ambulances rushed to the scene and carried the casualties to hospitals in the cities of Asqalan (Ashkelon) and Beer Al-Saba'a (Beersheba), pointing out that 35 Israeli soldiers at least sustained minor and medium shrapnel injuries because one of the rockets fell down on the tents they were sleeping in.

Annasser Salahuddin Brigades, the armed wing of the popular resistance committees, adopted the firing of two homemade upgraded rockets at an early hour Tuesday on the Zakkim military base inflicting different injuries amongst the 66 IOF officers and soldiers.

In a communiqué, the Brigades confirmed that this operation comes in retaliation to the Israeli massacres perpetrated against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank and within its adherence to the option of resistance as the optimal way to liberate the usurped Palestinian land.

In an earlier interview conducted by the Qassam website, Abu Ubaida, the spokesman for the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, addressed the IOF troops saying: "The rules of the game have changed, and the Zionist enemy must pay the price in the event of any aggression against the Palestinian people; in addition, the IOF troops should be ready for the coming stage of resistance, which will inflict material, moral and even human losses."

In the context of retaliation to the Israeli crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, the Qassam fighters fired on Tuesday morning eight mortar shells on the Karam Abu Salem Israeli military outpost adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

The same armed wing also managed at dawn Tuesday to fire five mortar shells on a gathering of Israeli military armored vehicles near the Gaza airport in Rafah to the south of the Gaza Strip.

For its part, Hebrew Radio quoted Israeli military sources as saying that a Palestinian homemade rocket has been fired from Gaza on Tuesday morning on the western Negev area to the south of Palestinian lands occupied in 1948 inflicting damage on a number of Israeli buildings.
