Secret negotiations underway between the PA and Israeli officials, says Nazzal

[ 06/10/2007 - 12:21 PM ]

DAMASCUS, (PIC)--

Mohamed Nazzal, a member of the Hamas political bureau, has strongly criticized the fact that secret negotiations were conducted by the PA with Israeli officials, confirming that Ahmed Qurei, a former PA premier affiliated with Fateh faction, was heading the Palestinian side.

"These secret negotiations are conducted in an atmosphere similar to the one that engulfed the Oslo agreement, which had been weaved in the dark between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Israeli occupation government  (IOG), and they are conducted based on PA chief Mahmoud Abbas's attempt to invest what happened in the Gaza Strip to monopolize the Palestinian area and Palestinian decision-making," Nazzal underlined in a press statement to the Quds Press.

The Hamas leader called on the PA chief to remember that there are other partners in the political arena that cannot be ignored and that what happened is a reversal of all the agreements reached between Palestinians starting from the document of national agreement to the Makkah accord.

Regarding PLO political department head Farouq Al-Qaddoumi's statement that Hamas will join the PLO at the end of this year, the Hamas leader denied any communications with Qaddoumi since Hamas took control of Gaza, saying that Hamas does not know what background he based such statements on.

The Hamas leader also reconfirmed Hamas's position of joining the PLO, saying that it cannot be before agreeing on reforming and rebuilding the PLO.

The Hamas leader pointed out that a preparatory committee formed out of the Palestinian factions was working round the clock to prepare for the national conference, saying that this conference will coincide or precede the autumn conference, patronized by the USA. The national conference aims to express the Palestinian rejection of normalizing relations with the Israeli occupation and to affirm that any agreement not endorsed unanimously in the Palestinian arena is doomed to failure, he elaborated.
