Casualties from Kirkuk blast rise to 12 Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Saturday , 06 /10 /2007 Time 4:03:58 Kirkuk, Oct 6, (VOI) – Casualties from the car bomb explosion that targeted a police patrol in northern Kirkuk on Saturday morning rose to one dead and 11 wounded, including four policemen, a local official security source said. "A roadside car rigged with explosives in the area of al-Musalla, northern Kirkuk, went off near a police patrol, killing one civilian who happened to be at the scene and injuring 11 others, including four policemen," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The body was taken to the morgue and the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment," the source indicated. A source from Kirkuk police told VOI earlier today that the explosion killed one civilian and wounded four police personnel. Kirkuk, a mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, is located 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. SS Officer killed, civilian wounded in attack near al-Huweija Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Saturday , 06 /10 /2007 Time 4:03:58 Kirkuk, Oct 6, (VOI) – An Iraqi army officer in the rank of First Lieutenant was killed and a civilian wounded in an attack by gunmen near al-Huweija district, 70 km southwest of Kirkuk, on Saturday morning, police said. "Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a civilian vehicle, killing an officer and wounding a civilian sitting next to him," an official source in the Kirkuk security operations command told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The source did not give further details but said the officer's body was removed to city morgue while the wounded was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AE 7 wounded in 2 explosive devices in al-Khalis Diala - Voices of Iraq Saturday , 06 /10 /2007 Time 4:03:58 Diala, Oct 6, (VOI) – Seven people were wounded in two explosive device attacks on in the district of al-Khalis, (15 km) north of Baaquba, on Saturday morning, police said. "An explosive charge went off near al-Mujaddad village, on the main road in al-Salm area, Khalis district, wounding five people: two women and three men," an official security source in Diala Operations Command told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The explosion also resulted in the destruction of a civilian pickup truck," the source said on customary condition of anonymity out of security concerns. He said one hour later a second explosive charge went off in the same place, wounding two people. Baaquba, the capital of Diala province, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AE Gunman killed, 12 arrested in Falluja Anbar - Voices of Iraq Saturday , 06 /10 /2007 Time 4:03:58 Falluja, Oct 5, (VOI)- Police forces killed one gunman and arrested 12 suspected militants on Friday during a security crackdown in Falluja, 45 km west of Baghdad, a police source said. "Police forces managed to kill a gunman and arrest 12 more during a security crackdown, today afternoon, in al-Jibil area near Falluja," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The source added "the operation was based on intelligence indicating the presence of gunmen in the area." The forces also confiscated arms, which were in the gunmen's possession, he said. Falluja is a Sunni city within the vast province of Anbar that starches from west of Baghdad up the Iraqi borders with Jordan. SK Mosul mosques denounce clerics killing, not perform Friday preach Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Saturday , 06 /10 /2007 Time 4:03:58 Mosul, Oct 5, (VOI)- Muslim mosques in the northern Iraqi city for Mosul on Friday denounced the killing of clerics in the predominantly Sunni city, and stopped giving Friday preach this week. "We carried out instructions by the Sunni Awqaf department, a body supervises Sunni mosques all over Iraq, not to perform the Friday prayer and preach in Mosul in protest against killings of clerics in the city and in the country," Sheikh Bilal Mohammed, Imam of al-Khedr mosque in central Mosul, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Another Sheikh from al-Dindan mosque in Mosul also said his mosque did not perform the Friday prayer today, noting that, "some worshipers headed to al-Masfi mosque in central Mosul, where Friday prayer was performed." "We denounce the killing of clerics in Mosul city and in Iraq at large," Imam of al-Masfi mosque told worshipers. On Saturday, unknown gunmen attacked and killed three mosque Imams in separate attacks in Mosul city. Mosul, capital city of Ninewa province, is 405 km north of Baghdad. SK Four unidentified bodies found in Baghdad Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Saturday , 06 /10 /2007 Time 4:03:58 Baghdad, Oct 5, (VOI)- Four unidentified bodies were found in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad during the past 24 hours, the interior ministry said on Friday. "Police patrols found four unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad, with most being found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh)," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Three corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: one in each al-Eskan, al-Aamel and in Abu Sheer," he explained. "One body was found in al-Nahrawan region, eastern side of Baghdad," the source also said. "Most of the bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SH *** AP Headline: US Military Captures Shi'i Militia Leader Accused of Sectarian Cleansing By KIM CURTIS Associated Press Writer Oct 6, 2007, 7:03 AM EDT BAGHDAD (AP) -- A militia leader believed to be responsible for sectarian cleansing was captured in a town north of Baghdad the same day another raid there left 25 people dead, the U.S. military said Saturday. Also Friday, the U.S. military said it was investigating the deaths of three civilians shot by American sentries near an Iraqi-manned checkpoint. Iraqi officials said the victims were U.S.-allied guards and were mistakenly targeted. And on Saturday, the decapitated bodies of two members of an awakening council in Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad, were found. Meanwhile, four American soldiers were reported killed - three Friday in roadside bombings in Baghdad and near Beiji to the north, and one Thursday in a small-arms attack in the capital. In other developments on Saturday, the military said Iraqi police had detained a fellow officer believed responsible for killing the top district official in Iskandariyah, 30 miles south of Baghdad. Abbas Hassan Hamza, a political moderate, was killed by a bomb that struck his convoy while he was going to work on Thursday. Four of his bodyguards also were killed and one was wounded. In Baghdad, more than 1,000 residents gathered Saturday in the Shi'i-dominated western neighborhood of Washash to protest concrete partitions. Protesters said the walls serve more to keep them cut off from the rest of the capital. Salam Rasheed al-Iqabi, a local clergyman, said the wall paralyzes the movement of the people. "We want the wall removed," he told the AP Television News.
