14 Iraqis Killed, Including 7 Executed by Death Squads, According to an Initial October 31, 2007 Report

The US news agence, Associated Press, published a photo of three Iraqis who were killed today in Ba'aqouba, and whose bodies were carried in a pick up truck. The photo has been published in today's news photos. This is an example of the fact that there are always more deaths than any single source can publish. 

The following report of the Iraqi news agency, Voices of Iraq, did not mention these three deaths.

Six unknown bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad, Oct 31, (VOI)- 

Six unidentified bodies were found in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad over the past 24 hours, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. "Police patrols found six unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad, most of them were found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh)," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Four corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: one in each al-Doura and al-Aamel, al-Shu'ala and al-Ilam," he explained. "Two bodies were found in Sadr City, Rasafa, eastern side of Baghdad," the source added. "Most of the bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SK

Unknown body found in Diwaniya

Diwaniya, Oct 31, (VOI) – 

Diwaniya General Hospital received an unknown body that had been found by police forces in southeastern Diwaniya, a local medic said on Wednesday.

"The hospital's morgue received a decayed corpse of a man in his thirties with gun shot wounds," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Police forces found the body in Nafr district in southeastern Diwaniya," the source added.

Diwaniaya, the capital city of Diwaniya province, lies 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Mayor survives assassination attempt in Anbar

Anbar - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 31 /10 /2007 Time 9:56:04

Ramadi, Oct 31, (VOI)- 

The mayor of the city of al-Ratba, Anbar province, escaped an attempt on his life on Wednesday afternoon at the center of the city, eyewitnesses said. "Unknown gunmen opened fire at the motorcade of the Mayor of al-Ratba, Qassem Marei al-Kabessi, while passing by the center of the city, causing severe damage to one of the vehicles," an eyewitness told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) over the phone. Another eyewitness said that "gunmen used automatic weapons in the attack, which followed by clashes between the gunmen from one side and police forces from the other." "The mayor was not hurt in the attack," he affirmed. Rataba is located 280 km west of Ramadi, capital city of Anbar, which lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

Attacks kill civilian, injure another in Mosul

Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 31 /10 /2007 Time 9:56:04

Ninewa, Oct 31, (VOI) – 

One civilian was killed by unknown gunmen in northeastern Mosul and another was wounded in an explosive charge attack in the north of the city, an official security source said on Wednesday. "Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a civilian in al-Muthanna neighborhood in northeastern Mosul this morning, killing him on the spot," the source, who preferred to remain unnamed, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Meanwhile, another civilian was wounded when an explosive device went off in al-Arabi neighborhood in northern Mosul, the same source added. The wounded was taken to a nearby hospital and the body to the morgue, according to the source.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 402 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Car bomb leaves four casualties in Baghdad

Baghdad, Oct 31, (VOI)- 

One civilian was killed and three others were injured in a car bomb explosion on Wednesday afternoon in central Baghdad, a police source.

"A car rigged with explosives, left by unknown gunmen near Baniya mosque outside Garage Allawi on the main road in central Baghdad, went off this afternoon, killing a civilian and injuring three more," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Security forces sealed off the area and rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital," he noted, adding no more details.

Head of Kirkuk Appeal court survives assassination bid

Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Wednesday , 31 /10 /2007 Time 9:56:04

Kirkuk, Oct 31, (VOI) – 

Head of Kirkuk Appeal Court escaped an assassination attempt when unidentified gunmen opened fire at his vehicle, killing one of his bodyguards and wounding another in the centre of the city, an official source from Kirkuk police said on Wendesday. "Unidentified gunmen attacked Dhahir al-Bayati, the chief judge of Kirkuk Appeal Court, while he was en-route to work in downtown Kirkuk on Wednesday morning," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The chief judge was not wounded in the attack. The body was taken to the morgue and the wounded to Kirkuk General Hospital for treatment, the source added. Kirkuk, a mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Bomb kills, injures 3 policemen near Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Oct 31, (VOI)- 

Two policemen were killed and another was injured when an explosive charge went off near their civilian vehicle on Wednesday morning in the city of al-Azim, southwest of Kirkuk, a police source from the Touz Khormato police department said.

"A roadside bomb exploded this morning targeting a civilian car in the city of al-Azim, southwest of Kirkuk, killing two policemen and injuring another one," the source, who preferred not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The explosion caused severe material damage to the vehicle," he added. Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad.
