Israeli Occupation Government Strikes the Palestinian Economy in Depth, Says Muhammed Agha [ 03/10/2007 - 10:12 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Muhammed Agha, the agriculture minister in the PA caretaker government, confirmed that the IOA wants to strike the Palestinian economy in depth by closing the crossings, pointing out that the Israeli occupation still targets economic sectors and sabotages agricultural lands in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Agha considered the closures a crime against humanity in Gaza, a form of mass punishment against civilians and a violation of the norms of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, for the protection of civilians in time of war, and human rights principles. The minister called on relief organizations atop of them the "UNRWA" and the "Red Cross" to redouble their efforts in and humanitarian aids to the Gaza Strip, hailing their prominent role in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian citizens. The minister also hailed the caretaker government's decision to deduct 5% of the total staff salaries in order to support the unemployed workers and alleviate their suffering, and to recruit manpower, highlighting that this decision shows how much is the government concerned with the Palestinian workers in Gaza who have demonstrated perseverance in the face of the siege more than others.
