Hamas denies reports about extraditing alleged Qaeda member to Egypt [ 02/10/2007 - 11:38 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas denied reports alleging that it had concluded a secret deal with the Egyptian government in which the latter allowed about 85 Hamas leaders and members stranded in the Egyptian side of Rafah border crossing to enter the Gaza Strip in exchange for extraditing an allegedly-wanted member of Al-Qaeda to Egypt. Ayman Taha, a Hamas leader, confirmed that such talk is unfounded and false, and there is no deal between Hamas and the Egyptians, adding that the stranded people were not allowed to enter Gaza based on any agreements; however, they have been admitted as part of their right. Media reports had rumored about the existence of a secret deal between Hamas and the Egyptian intelligence, and allegedly talked that this Qaeda member was behind the attacks that occurred in the Egyptian governorate of Assyut and infiltrated to Gaza through a tunnel between the southern Gaza Strip and Egypt. Taha reconfirmed that there is no any member of Al-Qaeda in the Gaza Strip, considering that such talk about the presence of Al-Qaeda members in Gaza gives Israel another pretext for escalating its aggressions against it.
