Israeli occupation forces kill four Palestinians as Gaza braces for power cuts Date: 26 / 10 / 2007 Time: 10:44 Gaza – Ma'an – Israeli occupation forces killed four Palestinians in a series of incursions into the Gaza Strip on Friday. The attacks came after Israeli occupation government defense minister Ehud Barak approved a plan to punish the Gaza Strip by cutting off electricity and fuel supplies. Israeli authorities have already cut electricity repeatedly in the town of Beit Hanoun, in the northern Gaza Strip. The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, said that a twenty-two-year-old activist named Yasser Asfur was killed while fighting Israeli forces in the city of Khan Younis. Four others were injured in the battle, one of them seriously. The wounded were taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Islamic Jihad said. Palestinian medical sources also said that two Al-Qassam Brigades fighters were killed and two injured in an Israeli airstrike in eastern Gaza City. All four were evacuated to Ash-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. The dead were identified as fighters Mahmoud Hassuna and Muhammad Shalabiyya. Ambush Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades said that a fighter named Yousif Walayda was killed and another injured in clashes with Israeli forces in the city of Jabalia. The Israeli army later announced that two of their soldiers were wounded while fighting Palestinian activists in Jabalia. At a press conference in Jabalia refugee camp Al-Qassam Brigades spokesperson Abu Ubayda described the action against the invading Israeli forces in eastern Jabalia, which the Al-Qassam Brigades called Operation Hunting the Snakes. Abu Ubayda said: "After monitoring the undercover Israeli forces who infiltrated northern Jabalia last night, Al-Qassam Brigades selected three units to operate against these forces. The mission began when the Israeli troops were caught in an ambush set by an Al-Qassam's special unit. One of the unit's fighters was only a few meters away from two Israeli soldiers, and he fired at them, saying that he hit them and saw them falling to the ground. The Israeli soldiers were heard yelling and two Al-Qassam fighters withdrew while a third, Yousif Walayda was killed. Another Al-Qassam unit fired heavily using machine guns to cover for the withdrawal of the other fighters." He added, "Israeli Apache choppers tried to advance towards the eastern borders, but the Al-Qassam Brigades fired heavily at them." Abu Ubayda also claimed that the Israeli soldiers left behind military equipment, ammunition, and medical supplies. These announcements come a day after six Palestinians were killed in two Israeli incursions Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Projectiles Meanwhile, the Al-Mujahideen Brigades, a military group linked to Fatah, and the Popular Resistance Committees' An-Nasser Brigades claimed responsibility for launching two homemade projectiles at Yad Mordechai, a small Israeli town in the western Negev. The groups also claimed to have launched two projectiles at the nearby town of Sderot.
