Prices Soaring in Gaza, All surgeries Stopped Due to Depletion of Nitrous Oxide, Because of Israeli Closure of Borders Date: 21 / 10 / 2007 Time: 12:56 Gaza – Ma'an – The Palestinian Health Ministry in the de facto government in Gaza on Sunday announced the closure of surgery rooms in all hospitals in the strip, due to the depletion of nitrous oxide used in anesthetization. Health Ministry spokesperson Khalid Radi said that reports from the company responsible for importing the gas have revealed that the Israeli authorities prohibit the entry of nitrous oxide into the Gaza Strip. Radi said that the nitrous oxide reserve in the Gaza Strip was 44 balloons and 42 have been used. The remaining two balloons are also almost completely depleted. The Health Ministry appealed for help to several international organisations, including the WHO, said Radi. Radi said that the policies of the Israeli occupation are leading to the deaths of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Zaza: Soaring prices in Gaza due to tight siege [ 20/10/2007 - 10:54 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Ziad Al-Zaza, the minister of economy in the PA caretaker government of Ismail Haneyya, has affirmed that the soaring prices of commodities and fuel in the Gaza Strip was due to the tight IOF blockade imposed on the Strip for more than a year and a half and still is in force. In a press release on Friday, Zaza attributed the phenomenon to three main reasons first the IOF siege and second the closure of crossings, which blocked the entry of supplies and raw material on regular basis coupled with the halt to the export traffic from Gaza. The third reason is the international hike in prices of cereals and fuel, the minister underlined. He also blamed the Paris economic agreement for the phenomenon, explaining that it compels the Palestinians to have all import-export traffic via the Hebrew state. Zaza categorically denied that his government had imposed any new customs or taxes on imported goods.
