26 Iraqis Killed, Including 2 Executed by Death Squads, According to an October 16, 2007 Report The Iraqi news agency, INA, reported that 22 Iraqis were killed, 110 were injured in various attacks today. *** Three civilians killed, injured in bomb blast in central Baghdad Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Baghdad, Oct 16, (VOI)- At least one civilian was killed and two more were injured on Tuesday in a bomb explosion in al-Karada region in central Baghdad, a police source said. "An explosive charge was detonated on Tuesday afternoon in al-Karada neighborhood near al-Arsat region in central Baghdad, killing an Iraqi civilian and injuring two others," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Iraqi security forces cordoned off the region and prevented citizens and vehicles from approaching the site," he also said. SH Mosul explosion casualties rise to five dead, 80 wounded Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Mosul, Oct 16, (VOI)- The death toll of the tanker bomb blast that occurred near a police station in Mosul on Tuesday rose up to five dead and 80 wounded, the chief of the Ninewa police department said. "The casualties of the tanker bomb explosion that ripped through al-Rimah police station in al-Sukkar neighborhood in northern Mosul reached five dead, including a police officer, three policemen and a woman, and 80 wounded, most of them are women and children," General Watheq al-Hamadani told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Several nearby houses were severely damaged," he also said. Meanwhile, the general said that the curfew imposed by security authorities on the city was lifted at 5:30pm and will be imposed once again from 9:00pm until 6:00am. Al-Hamadani said earlier that local authorities imposed a vehicle curfew on the city as of 4pm until further notice within security measures after the attack. An official security source had said earlier that a tanker rigged with explosives driven by a suicide bomber went off this afternoon near al-Rimah police station in al-Sukkar neighborhood in northern Mosul, killing four individuals and injuring at least 50 others. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, is located 402 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad SH Two gunmen killed while planting bomb in Kirkuk Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Kirkuk, Oct 16, (VOI)- Two gunmen were killed on Tuesday while planting an explosive device, southwest of Kirkuk, a police source said. "Two armed men were killed while attempting to emplace an improvised explosive device on the main road in al-Abassi district, southwest of Kirkuk," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity. "The blast tore their bodies to bits," he noted. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast if Baghdad. SH Two bodies found in Kirkuk Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Kirkuk, Oct 16, (VOI)- Police patrols found on Tuesday two unidentified bodies in Kirkuk, while two civilians were injured in two blasts west of the city, a police source said. "A police patrol found this afternoon a booby-trapped beheaded body in al-Riyadh district in southwestern Kirkuk," the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Police forces, backed by U.S. troops, managed to defuse the bomb without casualties," he added. "Another unknown corpse was found in Dour al-Faylaq region in central Kirkuk," he also said. "The body bore signs of gunshot wounds," he noted. Meanwhile, the same source said that two explosive charges went off simultaneously near a tanker on the main road near Mamah village, west of Kirkuk. "The blasts injured the driver and a civilian," he said, noting that they were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad. SH Policeman killed by gunmen in Diwaniya Diwaniya - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Diwaniya, Oct 16, (VOI)- A policeman on Tuesday morning was killed by unidentified gunmen in front of his house in central Diwaniya, a police source said. "Three unidentified gunmen opened fire against a policeman near his house in al-Jumhouri neighborhood in central Diwaniya, killing him on the spot," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) under condition of anonymity. A security source from al-Diwaniya police, who asked not to be named, had told VOI on Monday that five, including three children, were killed and 28 others, mostly civilians, were wounded. A source from the Diwaniya Province Council said a curfew was imposed in the city as of 10:00 p.m. on Monday until further notice. Diwaniya is 180 km south of Baghdad. SH Gunman killed, 1920 Revolution Brigades' member wounded in Diala Diala - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Diala, Oct 16, (VOI) – A gunman believed to be al-Qaeda member was killed during clashes with local residents in a village in Diala, while a member in al-Ishreen (1920) Revolution Brigades was wounded when an explosive charge went off in the centre of the province, an official security source said on Tuesday. "Tribesmen in al-Aazzi village in al-Miqdadiya district, 45 km northeast of Ba'aquba, killed on Tuesday morning an al-Qaeda member who tried to attack local villagers," the source, who requested his name not be mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Meanwhile, an explosive device was detonated on Tuesday morning on a main road in al-Sada village in northern Baaquba, wounding a member of al-Ishreen Revolution Brigades. Ba'aquba, the capital city of Diala province, is located 60 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The 1920 Revolution Brigades is a Sunni group in Iraq that includes former members of former president Saddam Hussein's disbanded army. The group describes its aim as to establish a liberated and independent Iraqi state on an Islamic basis. It has been active in the areas west of Baghdad, in the regions of Abu Ghraib, Khan Dari and Falluja and in the provinces of Ninewa, Diala and Anbar. The name of the group (literally, "Brigades of the Revolution of the Twenty") refers to the 1920 revolution against British colonial rule in Iraq, drawing an implicit parallel between the nationalist resistance against that occupation and the guerrillas fighting coalition forces today. They are the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Iraq). SS 6 cleaners killed, wounded in attack in western Baghdad Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Baghdad, Oct 16, (VOI) – A cleaner was killed and five others wounded when an armed group opened fire at them in western Baghdad on Tuesday noon, the Iraqi police said. "Unidentified gunmen in two modern civilian vehicles fired a volley of bullets at workers cleaning al-Aadl street in western Baghdad," a security source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The five wounded were rushed to al-Yarmuk hospital in western Baghdad for treatment, added the source. The gunmen later escaped to an unknown place, he said. The motives behind the incident could not be known. AE 8 Iraqi soldiers wounded in attack north of Babel Babel - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Babel, Oct 16, (VOI) – Eight Scorpion Force and civil defense soldiers were wounded in an explosive device attack that targeted a Scorpion patrol in north of Babel on Tuesday morning, police said. "Five Scorpion soldiers in the patrol and three escorting civil defense soldiers were wounded in al-Iskandariya, (50 km) north of Babel province," a source from Babel police told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity. Some of the wounded were in critical condition, the source said. Babel lies 100 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AE Car bomb blast kills 7, wounds 30 in central Baghdad Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Baghdad, Oct 16, (VOI) – Seven people were killed and 30 others wounded in a car bomb attack in al-Saadoun street, central Baghdad, on Tuesday noon, the Iraqi police said. "Two policemen were among the seven fatalities in the attack that occurred when an Iraqi police patrol was passing off al-Saadoun fuel station near al-Nasr Square, al-Sa'adoun street," an Iraqi police source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The blast also set ablaze a number of nearby civilian vehicles and caused severe damage to nearby stores. AE U.S. army says 4 killed, 16 wounded in Diwaniya clashes Diwaniya - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 16 /10 /2007 Time 10:21:55 Baghdad, Oct 16, (VOI) – Four Iraqi civilians were killed and 16 others, including two Multi-National Force soldiers, wounded in Monday's clashes and mortar attack on an MNF camp, the U.S. army said on Tuesday. "The ECHO camp, one of the MNF bases in the area of al-Iskan, Diwaniya province, came under attack with mortar shells and light weapons on Monday," according to a U.S. army statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The statement, which did not specify the nationalities of the two wounded MNF soldiers, read that the wounded civilians were rushed to al-Diwaniya hospital to receive treatment. A security source from al-Diwaniya police, who asked not to be named, had told VOI on Monday that five, including three children, were killed and 28 others, mostly civilians, were wounded. A source from the Diwaniya Province Council said a curfew was imposed in the city as of 10:00 p.m. on Monday until further notice. About 900 Polish soldiers are stationed in the province of al-Qadissiya as part of the U.S.-led MNF with the aim of backing the Iraqi army's 8th Division and training Iraqi policemen and army soldiers.
