Miserable Eid for those stranded in Gaza Date: 12 / 10 / 2007 Time: 16:32 Gaza – Ma'an – The people of the Gaza described Ramadan as a miserable month, not because of the task of fasting between daylight hours, but because of the siege imposed on the million and a half million people living in the open air prison that is the Gaza Strip. Nor has Eid Al-Fitr brought much joy to Gaza's inhabitants. At a time when people travel to visit family and friends, Gazans are not allowed to leave the Strip to see their relatives in the West Bank and even in other parts of the world. Zuzu Fakhr Al-Dayeh left all her children in the United Arab Emirates, returning to Gaza to see her sick mother. She has now been in Gaza six months, denied permission to return to her children in the Emirates. She said spending Eid Al-Fitr away from her children is devastating. On Eid day Hamas calls for dialogue and solidarity [ 12/10/2007 - 07:34 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas congratulated the Palestinian people, the Arab and Muslim nations on the advent of Eid al-Fitr (the end of the fasting month of Ramadan), in a statement that was issued on Thursday which marked the last day of Ramadan. The movement expressed special greetings to the families of martyrs and wounded stressing that the sacrifices of those heroes will not be vain and that the struggle for liberation will continue no matter how high the price is. The movement stressed in its statement the importance of internal dialogue as the only way to achieve unity between the Palestinian people calling on the Palestinian people for solidarity with one another and to show this solidarity by visiting families of martyrs, the wounded and the detainees and helping orphans, widows and needy people. The movement also called on the Palestinian people to use the occasion of Eid to show their true spirit of brotherhood and forgiveness. The movement also sent a special Eid greeting to all Palestinian and Arab captives in Israeli jails expressing hope that soon those captives will be reunited with their families and their loved ones.
