Al-Tamimi accuses Israeli occupation government of converting the Ibrahimi mosque into synagogue [ 30/09/2007 - 10:44 PM ] AL-KHALIL, (PIC)-- Palestinian chief justice Shaikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, on Sunday, has accused the Israeli occupation government of transforming the Muslim Ibrahimi Mosque located in the heart of the West Bank town of Al-Khalil city into a Jewish Synagogue. According to Tamimi, the Israeli attempt considered flagrant violation and undermining of the Palestinian people right to worship, charging that the IOF troops' closure of the Mosque before Muslims and allowing tens of Israeli settlers into it was meant to tighten the grip on the Mosque and to gradually convert it to a synagogue. In a statement he made to the PIC correspondent in the city, Tamimi also warned that the Israeli closure of the Mosque before Muslims for six times since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was "clear repression of Palestinian people's right of worship and blatant interference in the Palestinian people's religious affairs". The reverent Shaikh also confirmed that "Jews have no right in the Ibrahimi mosque whatsoever simply because it was and will remain a Muslim holy place"; but he urged the Palestinian people to consolidate ranks and to start national unity and reconciliation talks instead of "wasting time in meeting the Israelis". Tens of Palestinian families were driven out of their homes in the city's old town at the hands of IOF troops and Israeli settlers who later claimed ownership of those usurped homes. In 1994, the Israeli fanatic settler Barouch Goldstein killed and wounded dozens of Palestinian worshippers inside the Ibrahimi Mosque during prayer time before Palestinian worshippers killed him.
