6 US Soldiers, 34 Iraqis Killed, Including 22 Executed by Death Squads, According to a November 6 Report Two civilians killed in Mosul Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Mosul, Nov 6, (VOI) - Two civilians were killed by unknown armed men in two separate incidents in Mosul, a police source said. "Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a civilian on Tuesday afternoon in al-Zuhour neighborhood in northeastern Mosul," the source, who asked to not be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Unknown armed men also killed a civilian at his work place in Garage al-Shemal region in eastern Mosul," the same source said. "The two bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department," he added. The source provided no further details. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. SH/SR Kidnapped policemen found dead in Salah el-Din Salah al-Din - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Tikrit, Nov 6, (VOI) - Police patrols found on Tuesday afternoon a grave, containing the bodies of two policemen, who were kidnapped five months ago, while Iraqi army forces handed over the bodies of two civilians to the Tikrit hospital, a police source said. "Police patrols were tipped off by a citizen to the presence of two bodies buried in a hole, east of Dalouiya, north of Baghdad," the source, who asked to remain unnamed, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The bodies belong to two policemen, who were kidnapped five months ago," he explained. Meanwhile, a medical source at the Tikrit public hospital said that the hospital received two civilian bodies, who were killed in the past 24 hours. Tikrit, capital city of Salah el-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. SH/SR Gunmen kill senior employee in Baghdad Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Baghdad, Nov 6, (VOI) - Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday afternoon killed the deputy director of the Baghdad sewage system department while he was leaving his work in al-Ghadeer neighborhood in Baghdad, a media source said. "Unknown armed men killed Engineer Aati Ali Sultan, deputy director of the Baghdad sewage system department, while he was leaving his work in al-Ghadeer neighborhood in Baghdad," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) under condition of anonymity. "The attackers showered him with bullets, killing him instantly," he added. "Police immediately opened an investigation into the incident," the source also said. SH/SR Four gunmen, village mayor killed near Kirkuk Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Kirkuk, Nov 6, (VOI)- Four gunmen were killed on Tuesday in clashes with joint police and U.S. forces, south of Kirkuk, while unknown armed men killed a village mayor and injured his son, southwest of the city, a police source reported. "Police forces, backed by U.S. troops, killed four gunmen during a security operation in Daqouq district, south of Kirkuk," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The forces were conducting a crackdown operation in a village when they came under fire attack. They responded, killing four gunmen," he explained, asserting that there were no casualties among the forces. "An armed group opened fire on the mayor of al-Sarai village while he was in his civilian car at the outlet of al-Howaiyja city, killing him and injuring his son," the source also said. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad. SH/SR Policeman's body found, man arrested for kidnapping children in Missan Missan - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Missan, Nov 6, (VOI) – Police patrols found the body of a policeman while a gangster kidnapping children was arrested in the province of Misan, police said on Tuesday. "The information we have held that gunmen on a motorbike shot down the policeman while heading for his work," a security source from Missan police, who declined to have his name mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The source did not give further details about the incident. On the other hand, the same source said, policemen arrested a member of a gang kidnapping children in al-Amar, capital of Missan province, 390 km south of Baghdad. "The man confessed during investigations with him to have kidnapped children in collaboration with other fugitives and ask children's relatives for ransoms," the source said. AE Gunmen kill Ninewa local council member in Mosul Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Ninewa, Nov 6, (VOI) – Unidentified gunmen killed a member of the Ninewa provincial council and wounded one of his escorts in northeastern Mosul on Tuesday morning, an official source in Ninewa police said. "The gunmen opened fire at Aref Yousuf Qonbor, the Ninewa council member and chairman of the province's culture & information committee, while heading for his work, killing him instantly and injuring his escort," Abdul-Kareem al-Juburi, the Ninewa operations room chief, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Qonbor's body was taken to a morgue while the wounded escort was rushed to the al-Hamdaniya hospital, eastern Mosul. The culprits escaped to an unknown place, the source added. The Ninewa local provincial council is composed of 41 members. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 402 km north of Baghdad. AE U.S. army says found mass grave with 22 bodies in western Iraq Anbar - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Anbar, Nov 6, (VOI) – Joint Iraqi-U.S. forces found a mass grave containing the remains of 22 bodies in the western Iraq province of al-Ramadi, the U.S. army said on Tuesday. "Iraqi army soldiers found 22 bodies in a mass grave near Lake al-Tharthar during a military operation with the coalition forces on Saturday," according to a U.S. army statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Lake al-Tharthar lies 25 km north of Ramadi, capital of Anbar province, 110 km west of Baghdad. AE Five U.S. soldiers killed in Anbar, Kirkuk Baghdad - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 06 /11 /2007 Time 10:00:44 Baghdad, Nov 6, (VOI) - Five U.S. servicemen have been killed in two separate attacks in Anbar and Kirkuk, the U.S. military said on Tuesday. "Four U.S. soldiers were killed as a result of an explosion near their vehicle while conducting combat operations in the Kirkuk province on Monday," the army said in a statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "A U.S. soldier assigned to Multi National Force-West was killed on Nov. 5 while conducting combat operations in Anbar Province," the army said in another statement. The deaths bring the number of U.S. service members killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion of the country in March 2003 to 3,856. Of this number, 39 U.S. troops were killed in October, the smallest number of U.S. fatalities since March 2006. 66 servicemen were killed last September. November 2004, which witnessed fierce battles between U.S. forces and armed groups in Falluja city, Anbar province, remains the month that saw the highest U.S. death toll with 137. April 2004 comes second with 135, followed by May 2007 during which 126 U.S. soldiers were killed. SH/SR *** AP Headline: Deadliest Year for US Troops in Iraq By STEVEN R. HURST Associated Press Writer Nov 6, 2007, 4:33 PM EST BAGHDAD (AP) -- The U.S. military announced six new deaths Tuesday, making 2007 the bloodiest year for American troops in Iraq. With nearly two months left in the year, the annual toll is now 853 - three more than the previous worst of 850 in 2004. Five U.S. soldiers were killed Monday in two separate roadside bomb attacks, according to Smith, the military spokesman. Later the military said a sailor had died of wounds from an explosion in Salahuddin province north of Baghdad. Also Tuesday, the U.S. military said Iraqi troops had discovered 22 bodies in a mass grave northwest of Baghdad over the weekend. The bodies were found during a joint operation Saturday. It was the second mass grave found in the area in less than a month. |
