Palestinian PM Haniya blames Abbas government for the siege, denies talks with Israel

Deposed Palestinian PM blames Palestinian parties for the siege, denies talks with Israel

Sunday November 04, 2007 15:39 by Rami Almeghari - IMEMC rami at imemc dot org

Deposed Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniya of Hamas, blamed Sunday Palestinian parties for the ongoing Israeli siege on Gaza.

Haniya’s remarks came in a televised briefing in Gaza City, in comment on the current condition, where Israel has been imposing a strict siege and attacking the coastal region almost on daily basis.

“ There have been many proposals to ease the siege, including European supervision, reinstallation of the Palestinian security forces on crossing points, re-operating the Rafah crossing terminal in accordance to the terminal operation agreement of 2005, however, all these proposals have been rebuffed”, Haniya revealed.

The PM hinted at the bill, passed by Qatar and Indonesia, to the United Nations Security Council, in June, for condemning the Israeli closure, yet such a bill was rejected by the Palestinian representation missing at the UN.

He wondered of the recent European Union’s decision to stop funding the fuel needed for the Gaza power plant’s operation, for which the EU cited Hamas’s collection of fees from residents.

The PM referred also to the cutting off salaries of thousands of PA’s employees, saying that this was a part of the ongoing siege on the Hamas government.

After June events, 167 people have been killed in Gaza, 65 of them are members of the police forces and the Hamas’s military wing , Ezziledin aL-Qassam.

“Our martyrs can tell those who allege Hamas renounced the resistance” ., Haniya maintained.

The most dangerous part of the situation is the latest U.S green light to Israel to kill our people, to invade the Gaza Strip, in a time the Arabs and Muslims are, unfortunately keeping silent, Haniya pinted out.

“This Gaza is a graveyard for the invaders, so it will complement the liberation program”, he confirmed.

The PM indicated that the situation in the West Bank is very complicated and volatile, by maintaining that the Israeli occupation never stops attacks and restricts movement of Palestinians.

On the other hand, there have been deliberate efforts to block the work of the Palestinian Legislative council, as well as the jurisdiction, just to create a vacuum in terms of the executive, the legislative and the juridical authorities, Haniya asserted.

“The evidence for that was the decision to order all the security forces to refrain from doing their jobs under the Hamas government”, the Palestinian leader hinted.

In addition, one more evidence was the boycotting to the government by public sector employees, Haniya said,.

The PM also indicated the Friday prayers, invited by Fatah leaders, believing that these prayers were intended at disrupting the governance.

As for Israeli-Palestinian talks, Haniya believed that dividing the holy city of Jerusalem is rejected totally and that any solution of refugees problem, which derogates the right of Palestinians to return to their homeland is also rejected, Haniya stressed.

“Our people are being transferred to the Latin America, so that they double suffer”, Haniya referred to the problem of Palestinian refugees in Iraq, blaming the Arabs for not absorbing those refugees.

“ I swear that we headed for Mecca very happily to reach a conciliation, we haven’t planned to create June’s incidents. While we were in Mecca, a Qassam leader was killed by Mohammad Dahalan’s men in Gaza”, Haniya refuted claims that Hamas had planned Gaza incidents in June.

Haniya went onto saying “ I submitted my resignation to Abu Mazen( Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) right after the Mecca deal, as a good will” .

“We are not a movement that seeks power, we are a fighter movement”, Haniya affirmed.

“ When the incidents broke out, many security bodies have fled their outpost during the events” the PM maintained.

As for the allegations that Hamas was planning to assassinate Abu Mazen, through tunnels under his house, Haniya confirmed that Abu Mazen is an elected President, with whom Hamas formed a unity government, despite the differences in platforms”.

He made clear “ a brother of one of those who dig tunnels for the Israeli occupation, happened to see the footage of the tunnels. He then handed out the footage to his leadership in one of the security bodies. The footage was later handed over to President Abbas”.

Haniya denied recent allegations that Hamas has held meetings with the Israeli side at the Eritz checkpoint in northern Gaza.

“ I am publicly and utterly denying any talks with the Israeli occupation, even if for easing the closure on the Gaza Strip”.

Haniya’s statements came almost five months after Hamas has taken over the Gaza Strip in June, amidst fighting with Fatah-loyal security force. President Abbas outlawed the Islamist group as a result, formed a caretaker government in Ramallah, which called the Gaza residents to boycott the Hamas-dominate government.
