Israel cuts Gaza's fuel supplies in half in order to further intensify collective punishment of the Palestinian people

Date: 04 / 11 / 2007 Time: 16:35

Fuel tankers line up at Nahal Oz [Ma'anImages] Gaza – Ma'an –

Daily fuel imports into the Gaza Strip remain at slightly more than half their normal levels, Palestinian officials said Sunday.

Nehro Hisamawi, the director of the distribution center at Nahal Oz, the main crossing point for liquid fuels into the Gaza Strip, said Israeli authorities are allowing 47 thousand liters of gasoline daily, down from the previous level of 90 thousand liters.

The Israeli occupation government is also allowing the transfer of 190 thousand liters of diesel fuel per day, down from the normal level of 300 thousand liters per day.

The diminished supply has resulted in high fuel prices and therefore a higher cost of transportation for ordinary Gazans. Arguments between taxi and bus drivers and passengers have become a common sight on the streets of Gaza, and the government is searching for a solution.

Officials in the Ministry of Transport and Communications in the Hamas-dominated Gaza Strip government is meeting Sunday to discuss ways to limit the cost of transportation, including putting limits on fares for certain routes.

Comment on the news:

The Israeli occupation government continues to punish the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip collectively because it opposes their elected Hamas government.

The Israeli occupation government also continues to prevent travel to and from Gaza Strip, as well as any transfer of financial assistance from Arab and Muslim countries.

As the shame continues, the world governments are dead silent.
