Abbas tries to discourage Qaddoumi from participating in the Damascus Palestinian national conference

[ 03/11/2007 - 09:39 AM ]

AMMAN, (PIC)--

PA President, Mahmoud, Abbas has exerted efforts to meet with Farouq Al-Qaddoumi, secretary-general of Fateh's central committee and head of PLO's political department, in Amman in order to sway him from participating in the national conference on the protection of the Palestinian constants to be held in Damascus, reliable sources revealed to the PIC.

The sources pointed to the failure of the PA President's efforts to meet with Qaddoumi so far as well as the failure of attempts made by Salim Al-Za'noon, a Fateh leader, in this regard.

The sources confirmed that Abbas aims to discourage Qaddoumi from his intention to attend the national conference called for by most Palestinian factions, which is intended to be held in conjunction with the autumn conference called for by the American administration.

The national conference will be held to assert the Palestinian people's adherence to the right of return and to the other Palestinian constants.

Qaddoumi's relations with the PA chief have lately deteriorated sharply, where Abbas tried to limit Qaddoumi's jurisdiction because of political disputes with him.
